Finland's Jean Sibelius is perhaps the most important composer associated with nationalism in music and one of the most influential in the development of the symphony and symphonic poem. Sibelius was born in southern Finland, the second of three children. His physician father left the family bankrupt, owing to his financial extravagance, a trait that, along with heavy drinking, he would pass on to Jean. Jean showed talent on the violin and at age nine composed his first work for it, Rain Drops. In 1885 Sibelius entered the University of Helsinki to study law, but after only a year found himself drawn back to music. He took up composition studies with Martin Wegelius and violin with Mitrofan Wasiliev, then Hermann Csillag. During this time …..

After being on the road for almost a year and a half sharing stages with bands like Kamelot, Alestorm & Blackguard during fall last year, and with Kittie this past spring. The Agonist is ready to release their third studio album Prisoners. After two years in the making they are breaking apart from their previous album Lullabies for the Dormant Mind (2009) in a sense. The Agonist on this album presents an evolved sound with sharp guitars, crushing drums, and a more empowered Alissa White-Gluz on vocals.

Genre: Folk, Celtic | Label: Proper Music Distribution | Copy: Untouched | Release Date: 28 Nov 2011 | Runtime: 77 min. | 4,09 GB (DVD5)

Back in 1999, Martyn Joseph recorded Far From Silent, which was packaged in a monochrome cover that reflected the stark, but mesmerising collection of songs that featured him singing as he did on stage: solo with just his guitar. He continued that way until 2006’s Live double-DVD set, which had some keyboard backing. Surprisingly, after his recent and multi-textured Under Lemonade Skies, he has now returned to a monochrome-packaged DVD that shows him stripped back to one-man-and-his-guitar. But how well it suits him.
Joseph was fine on the generously song-stuffed Live, but his great track selection and strong performance were undone by outrageously intrusive camera cranes.

Getting the band back together for the first time since 2003, Neil Young corrals Crazy Horse through Americana, a collection comprised primarily of old folk songs – not the weird, forgotten ones scholars have excavated, but the familiar ones taught in elementary schools from sea to shining sea. Ornery git that he is, Neil doesn’t follow his own concept to the letter, finding a way to shoehorn the Silhouettes’ rocking doo wop classic “Get a Job” and the British commonwealth anthem “God Save The Queen” into Americana, their presence suggesting a possible political component to the record.

The Funk Ark - High Noon (2012)
    MP3 320 kbps CBR | 51:34 min | 118 MB
Genre: Funk, Jazz | Label: ESL Music

The second outing from the Funk Ark shows a band full of confidence and willing to take more risks. In some ways, they've turned into the Santana of Afro-beat, mixing it up with rock and soul, the way that Carlos and his boys did with Latin music at the end of the '60s. There's even a fair amount of guitar soloing from Greg Loman, backed up heavily by Will Rast's keyboards. But it's the horns that dominate, as well they should, with plenty of room for blowing (and kudos to Matt Rippetoe for his excellent sax work). Everything builds from Afro-beat, however, the funky pieces and riffs locking together to build a rich, grooving structure. There are only vocals on "Funky Southern," but guest singer Mustafa Akbar brings plenty of soul to the party.

Cross Purpose marks the reunion of the original Spooky Tooth lineup sans Gary Wright, which means that singer Mike Harrison, guitarist Luther Grosvenor, bassist Greg Ridley, and drummer Mike Kellie are all present. The band's sound is pretty much the same as it was during their first go-round, which is exactly what most listeners will be looking for, although it's perhaps a little cleaner and more polished. The material, on the other hand, is not quite up to the level of the group's best, although much of it is at least passably decent. In short, while most of the public at large will pass on Cross Purpose, it's entertaining enough for devoted fans of the group, which is all it really needs to be.

Knowledge of wind instruments during the “Age of Enlightenment” is sparse, particularly in contrast to string instruments. With this release Dynamic attempts to redress this balance, concentrating on trio sonatas and sonatas composed by musicians associated with the Venetian area at the time. The Ensemble Barocco Sans Souci, founded in 1986, devotes itself especially to performing works from the mid-17th to the late-18th century. Includes world premiere recordings.

From small beginnings in Amy Lee's home town of Little Rock, Arkansas, Evanescence have grown to become a global phenomenon, with their blend of metal infused intensity, gothic melodrama and pop sensibility adhering them to legions of fans across the world. Members have come and gone with some frequency, but this hasn't stopped the band winning several Grammy Awards and selling millions upon millions of albums, as Amy Lee has lead her group through its many guises to achieve that rare combination of critical acclaim and commercial success.
