Based on the dates of 90% of their output and their self-classification as "cosmic prog", DICE would seem to be a new generation German space rock band, albeit in the mold of veterans like ELOY, PINK FLOYD, and even HAWKWIND, but in some sense they were almost contemporaries.

Rings Around the World is the fifth studio album and the major label debut by Super Furry Animals. Released on 23 July 2001 by Epic Records in the United Kingdom, it was the first album by any artist to be simultaneously released on both audio CD and DVD. The record reached number 3 in the UK Albums Chart and includes the singles "Juxtapozed with U", "(Drawing) Rings Around the World" and "It's Not the End of the World?".

The Exploited's fourth record finds the band with an entirely new lineup (only leader Wattie Buchan remains), but never fear, the new boys prove that they are entirely capable of thrashing and, what's more, they are eager to thrash. Great, thunderous rockers like "Kidology" and "Another Day to Go Nowhere" fulfill the obligatory youth-angst requirement while "Let's Start a War (Said Maggie One Day)" and "Rival Leaders" (among many others) represent the epicenter of the group's familiar antiwar/anti-Thatcher sentiment. Nothing new in the grand scheme of punk rock in general (or The Exploited in particular), Let's Start a War…Said Maggie One Day is what it is – punk rock comfort food.

The Glenn Gould Complete Jacket Collection" is presented to mark the brilliant pianist's 75th birthday and the 25th anniversary of his death. It is a fascinating, limited edition: all the artist's LP recordings in the "look and feel" of the original vinyl discs on 80 CDs.

A harmonically advanced cool-toned and subtle guitarist, Jim Hall was an inspiration to many guitarists, including some (such as Bill Frisell) who sound nothing like him. Hall attended the Cleveland Institute of Music and studied classical guitar in Los Angeles with Vicente Gómez. He was an original member of the Chico Hamilton Quintet (1955-1956), and during 1956-1959 was with the Jimmy Giuffre Three. After touring with Ella Fitzgerald (1960-1961) and sometimes forming duos with Lee Konitz, Hall was with Sonny Rollins' dynamic quartet in 1961-1962, recording The Bridge. He co-led a quartet with Art Farmer (1962-1964), recorded on an occasional basis with Paul Desmond during 1959-1965 (all of their quartet performances are collected on a Mosaic box set), and then became a New York studio musician…

Compass Rose sextet continues its musical odyssey with the eleven new tunes on Carnivalesque. The music in this latest collection draws its inspiration from the sounds and cultures of four different continents: the street parades and beaches of Brazil, the jungles of the Yucatan, the syncopations of Puglia region of Italy, the tonalities of eastern Europe, the genre-blending influences of Afro-pop, as well as the blues and swing idioms of the United States. A couple of these tunes were written to commemorate particular events, such as "Martello Tower," celebrating Bloomsday of Joyce's Ulysses, and "Photograph 51," prompted by the anniversary of Rosalind Franklin's first images of DNA. In all, CR6 has sought to explore and adapt divergent styles…

Mark Wigglesworth continues his Shostakovich cycle on BIS, performing with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir Symphonies Nos. 1 to 3. The First Symphony was in fact the graduation piece that completed his studies at the Leningrad Conservatory, but to quote Mark Wigglesworth, ‘Shostakovich’s trade-mark musical gestures are all immediately obvious’ and was an immediate success.

This new full traces the career of Serge Gainsbourg interpreter. It returns to its original discography 1958-1991 since its first four 25 cm until the last albums, not to mention the titles published in 45s and duets where he put his voice. It is a large place to work for the cinema through a selection of songs and film scores. It also includes an audio CD archive including many rare and unpublished documents.

Released to raise money for victims of the Kobe, Japan, earthquake, this Amon Düül II disc from 1996, like the very similar Eternal Flashback, is actually material from 1969 to 1971 reworked through the wonders of plunderphonics by members of the group into one seamless, 65-minute-long space rock epic. It's not quite as radical as the John Oswald remix of the Grateful Dead's "Darkstar" on Grayfolded or the Can remix album Sacrilege, though it's still a quite fascinating bit of trickery, as bits of tracks from the first two albums, Phallus Dei and Yeti, are blended with previously unreleased material. The rhythms are often looped to retain the essence of the original album, but drawn out into long, hypnotic passages with oozes of guitar floating around them, while most of the vocal sections have been completely excised out, leaving this a complete instrumental workout. It comes off like an early version of the group on an endless jam section, and though it is no match for either Yeti or Phallus Dei, it will certainly satisfy those who can't get enough of Amon Düül II's early psychedelic sound.
