    Prior to Lovedrive's recording, the Scorpions' lineup had a major change when their lead guitarist, Uli Jon Roth, quit the group (not to mention, the rock genre was rapidly changing). With this in mind, the band not only highlighted the album with the licks and riffs of three guitarists (Rudolf Schenker, Michael Schenker, Matthias Jabs), but they also dramatically changed their style to sound more like that of Van Halen. This change is quite welcome; not only are the performances more unpredictable, but the lyrics and melodies are better written.

    Really wonderful work from Jo Stafford recorded much later than some of her more popular material with a hip 60s sound that's mighty nice! These tracks were recorded at the end of the 60s for the Readers Digest label a short-lived imprint that only issued a handful of original music, but who managed to make some real gems with Jo. And if you think the mixture of "Readers Digest" and "Jo Stafford" is middle America at its best, then think again because there's a depth to these recordings that far surpasses Jo's commercial material hardly ever heard by most, given that the recordings were only issued to subscribers of the magazine. There's still some of the warm, sentimental modes of years before but the overall style is a bit more mature, almost boozy at points thanks in part to orchestrations from Glenn Osser, Paul Weston, and Billy VerPlanck. Some tracks feature background vocals and titles include "I Believe In You", "A Ghost Of A Chance", "Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars", "September In The Rain", "People", and "What The World Needs Now Is Love".

    This is very probably the best single-disc career review of Maestro Morricone's work. If you are interested in exploring the music of this great composer, look no futher for the perfect primer. Includes some of the very best from the late 60's through mid-80's. Excellent mastering and sound. Features classic themes from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," "Once Upon A Time In The West," and "The Mission," and many other great themes. In fact, the themes included from "Moscow Farewell," "Lady Caliph," and "Dedicace," are among the Maestro's most beautiful melodies, and "For Love One Can Die," is very probably his most beautiful theme (I also love Milva's exquisite vocal version on DEDICATO A MILVA DA ENNIO MORRICONE), although "Chi Mai," also included here, is a very, very close second (Milva's vocal version of this one, on the aforementioned album, is simply stunning, as well).

    (2-CD set) Lightnin' Hopkins woke up The Dead when he played San Francisco in the 1960's and his song 'Wake Up The Dead' is the centerpiece of this two and a half hour journey into the electrified world of Texas blues. Accompanying Lightnin' on this journey is his long time harmonica player, Billy Bizor. While Lightnin' had a prolific recording career, Bizor's stature is relatively obscure due to the lack of solo recordings he released during his lifetime. Fortunately, 'Wake Up The Dead' seeks to rectify that situation by including the complete June 17, 1968 session with Lightnin' and Bizor, plus all of Bizors' 1969 solo recordings.
