Death metal from the Netherlands, Bodyfarm subscribe to the tried and true principles of the genre on their second studio album "The Coming Scourge". The four-piece perform with the spirit of the early 90's European scene in terms of their tones, production quality, and riff selection. The eerie horror trilling within "Frontline Massacre" which rolls into an evil growling escapade for guitarist/ vocalist Thomas Wouters, the sneaky slow riff roll against steady Mathieu Westerveld bass plodding that starts "Vortex of Terror", the lull of doom that signals "The Frozen Halls" as each measured word matches the depressive feel of the arrangement - Bodyfarm exemplify solid mechanics in terms of writing and performance.
In late February 1653, just after the Fronde rebellion, the most influential spectacle of the early reign of Louis XIV was presented at the Louvre: the Ballet Royal de la Nuit. Grandiose, and carefully elaborated at the highest levels of the state, the libretto by Benserade called upon the finest artists of the time. Banishing the troubles of night, Louis XIV danced in the Sun King costume that would henceforth be forever associated with him. This unmissable world premiere recording presents a reconstruction of the work created by Sebastien Dauce that includes music by Jean de Cambefort, Antoine Boesset, Louis Constantin, Michel Lambert, Francesco Cavalli and Luigi Rossi.
The Fontana Years is four discs – 1990's The House of Love (the "butterfly" album) and A Spy in the House of Love, 1992's Babe Rainbow, and 1994's Audience With the Mind – whittled down to two, with some spare B-sides sprinkled around. Quite possibly slapped together as a reaction to the reignited Rev-Ola label – the source of 2003/2004-released compilations from several of the House of Love's old Creation label mates, such as the Jasmine Minks, the Weather Prophets, and Biff Bang Pow! – its only saving grace is the single-disc price. Though the years covered here weren't the House of Love's best, they are deserving of better treatment, especially since some key album cuts ("Hannah," "Feel") are left out of the mix, and there isn't enough room for all of the B-sides. One thing that every prospective purchaser in the U.S. should consider: the four discs that this set draws from can be swooped up in one shot at your average used shop for roughly the same cost; you can find any one of them for a couple bucks apiece.
Saltatio Mortis celebrates their 15th Anniversary this year and of course this will be celebrated with a new album. The band has made another step in their career, they moved from Napalm Records to Universal Records, a step into the world of the big ones. And SaMo as their German fans call them may not be very well know in the world, in Germany their very popular. Finally something new from the German minstrels and their very medieval rock sounds. This album comes with fourteen songs in the ordinary version and even more when you get the limited version. The topic of this album is accompanied by nice artworks and an awesome theme. This CD is definitely worth its money! The first song ‘Wo sind die Clowns’ is a very nice summary of the whole album. It’s about the question where the humor and the laughter is in the world. Everything is serious and orientated in money and stuff.
Mark Knopfler's second solo album might as well be called Dire Straits' eighth studio album, though Knopfler abandoned the group name back in 1996, dispensing with hefty sales in the process. There was never much doubt that the fame and lifestyle coincident with platinum sales made him uncomfortable, and discontinuing the Dire Straits billing was a means of walking away from all that. It also allowed him to indulge his love for various musical genres more, and that process continues on Sailing to Philadelphia…
A stunning set of Mogwai career highlights and rarities, available to buy in a limited edition 3xCD box set via Rock Action Records. Tracks on the collection span the band's 20 year career taking in highlights from their debut long-player Mogwai Young Team (1997) all the way through to Rave Tapes (2014), the band's first ever top 10 album. The announcement comes midway through a run of special live events marking 20 years to the week that the band gathered together in the Glasgow living room of Stuart Braithwaite's parents to rehearse for the first time. Following two acclaimed sell-out nights at Glasgow Barrowlands, Mogwai open a season of curated shows at London's iconic Roundhouse. For this ATP Season at the Roundhouse, the band celebrate their 20 year anniversary by playing two sold out shows and hand-picking a line-up of seminal artists that have challenged, intrigued and inspired over the past two decades, including Public Enemy, GZA, Godspeed You! Black Emperor & The Jesus & Mary Chain, the latter performing their seismic debut album Psychocandy in full.
