It is on the 11 September 1966 that Bobby Dirninger is born… In Colmar, Alsace. "It seems to me I caught the Rock and Blues virus in my crib.” From childhood onwards he wears out the same old Elvis and Beatles numbers, playing them hundreds of times over on the record player. “At that time we felt more in tune with what was happening culturally in England and the States; in their music, something really different was going on."

'Dance!' features the seldom heard combination of violin and accordion. Not much repertoire has been composed for this pairing of instruments, so all of the varied music here - including well-known pieces by Brahms, Bartók, Dvorák and others - has been expertly arranged. It's performed by two top Dutch musicians: violin virtuoso Cécile Huijnen is first concert master of The Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, a position she has held since 2000, and Marieke Grotenhuis is one of the foremost accordionists in the Netherlands.

Wow, hand me down my walkin'cane. I'm staggered. What a fantastic album! This is authentic hard core Blues of the first degree. Check the calendar; is it 2015 or Chicago 1955? Just the way Muddy Waters and company used to make them. Harmonica Shah's wailin' harp and raw vocals holds it all together. No compromise to modernity, the digital clock has been stopped. If played blindfolded you'd think this was Blues from the heyday of Chess Records, Jack de Keyzer's guitar playing is a master class of Blues. Detroit's Harmonica Shah is a star in my book and worth the attention of all Blues fans.

With his second post-millennium album in just two years, Mark Knopfler has already equaled his meager (non-soundtrack) output for the '90s. And while he isn't reinventing himself, The Ragpicker's Dream is a pleasant, classy, often inspired effort whose unassuming charms are best appreciated after repeated listenings…

A nice blues CD done with style. This disc is very reminiscent of the old Snowy White Blues Agency albums so if you liked those then this one is a must have. Nothing too laid back here and it doesn't all sound the same. Depending on your taste in blues there should be something for everyone here. My personal favorite on this disc is "I Ain't No Doctor" as I prefer the upbeat tunes. If you are new to Snowy White one can start with just about any of his works - it is all good and his guitar work very nice.

"A Farewell to Arms" is the third album with the new singer, is the twelfth studio album by the Norwegian hard rock band TNT, released on 15 December 2010 in Japan. The album is in stark contrast to the previous two TNT albums, being a very 1980s-melodic rock-oriented album. The band returned to a heavier and straighter sound that is in the vein of previous classics like “Tell No Tales” or “My Religion”.

In the wave of folk metal frenzy that has recently struck the metal scene, it seems peculiar that German folk fanatics Saltatio Mortis are unfamiliar to most. In their nine years of existence, they have released seven full-length albums, alongside one live album. ‘Wer Wind Sat’ is dominated by an array of folk instruments including flutes, bagpipes, lutes, fiddles and lesser known instruments like the Indian wui, schalms and citterns to name a few.

Fresh from their first European tour, Bareto - a tropical indie band from Peru - release their debut album for World Village (and fifth overall). The band play a potent mix of cumbia, psychedelia, dub and electronica and have established themselves as the foremost Peruvian band of their generation. Throughout the album the familiar languorous loping rhythms of Peruvian cumbia, with its sonorous bass lines and intricate guitar motifs, are spiced with a frisson of electronica and hooks aplenty. 'Impredecible' is a glorious contemporary take on Peruvian cumbia an album of richly melodious tunes and slow-burning intensity.

Note from Nils: In January 2015, after a three year break from our traditional acoustic UK tours, we headed back in the dead of Winter, excited for another run of shows, town to town, on the bus, sharing music that hopefully spreads some good will and hope to linger with the wonderful audiences we've had, decade after decade. Accompanied by Greg Varlotta, our friend and amazing, multi-instrumentalist and our stellar crew, we all set out to do special, inspired shows everywhere.

One of the most significant arrangers in jazz history, Gil Evans' three album-length collaborations with Miles Davis (Miles Ahead, Porgy and Bess, and Sketches of Spain) are all considered classics. Evans had a lengthy and wide-ranging career that sometimes ran parallel to the trumpeter. Like Davis, Gil became involved in utilizing electronics in the '70s and preferred not to look back and re-create the past.

‘Hyaena’ is the new, long-waited album of Progressive Death Metal legends Sadist. Produced and mixed by Tommy Talamanca at Nadir Music Studios in Genova, Italy, Hyaena is a compelling mix of the band’s traditional Death Metal and Progressive influences with ethnic and tribal sounds, centered around an intriguing concept about one of Africa’s most fascinating predators, whose legend says is ridden by the devil. This is without any doubt the band’s most mature, diverse and experimental album to date, in which every detail has been meticulously looked after, musically and visually (the beautiful front cover by painter Luca Orecchia and booklet design by Alex Del Bono are both top notch).

"…One of the regions that suffered the worst in Spain was the Basque Provinces, and as soon as the regime folded, there came about a flood of folk artists, and a few groups that mixed the folk music with a rock format. In the following years, bands like Izukaitz, Haizea, Itoiz, Itziar and Errobi all releazsed a few albums that can be regarded as folk prog gems. Errobi was one of the longer-lasting of those groups and certainly the most adventurous or at least the widest-spectrummed. Mixing more easily straight ahead rock with their Basque folk rock, their sound was consequently different than the other above-mentioned groups…"
