There is certain craze for Peter Mergener. For his music! Having remixed and fused the both passages of Creatures in a single album, Creatures 2020 in April 2014, the German synthesist revisits Passage in Time in October of the same year. And now it's the turn of “Take Off”, his 3rd solo opus which appeared on the German label Cue Records in 1992.

I wrote a review on my FB page dedicated to Neil Stubenhaus (Neil Stubenhaus - Bass Player) about this amazing album. This is by far the best tribute to Sinatra I have ever heard. It is the real deal and Laura unearthed the heart and soul of these classics. She also took some courageous decisions to cover some less often heard jewels ("Here's To The Losers", "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die", "How About You"). I have been let down by many tributes that were given a way too polished treatment to access a certain demography (Rod Stewart, Michael Bolton, Michel Buble) to the detriment of the passion this music carries. Nothing of the sorts here. The production is crisp and precise. Laura Dickinson is a jewel. She has a fantastic voice, but she mostly and more importantly is a brilliant singer. The arrangements, particularly on the three duets songs are unique. My favourites? The almost funky version of "You Go To My Head", the fiery take on "I'm Gonna Live Till I Die" and the impressive reworking of "My Funny Valentine" (a duet with Neil Stubenhaus on bass). Best interpretation of these songs since Mr. Sinatra passed away.

As the title of this collection suggests, English blue-eyed soul man Paul Young, takes pop songs and reworks them into big band, Sinatra-Buble stylings. He covers songs made famous by Elvis, Springsteen, Elton John, Don Henley, and even Soft Cell and Eminem. What makes the collection special is that he pulls it off and it works more often than not. It's such a shame this wasn't a big hit. It has a rockabilly feel, kinda like something the Stray Cats might have tried.

But Last Autumn’s Dream distinctive sound remains intact in "Paintings", a proper title as the new record is a colorful melodic rock album with varied melodies. Despite the lost of Andy Malecek, the band has gained a fresh sonic delivery thanks to Soderstrom's modern guitar contributions. His set up sound - and the way he builds the riffs - has more in common to former Europe axeman Kee Marcello, providing a 'swirling' vibe to the songs.
