Arabic music or Arab music is the music of the Arab world. Arab music, while independent and flourishing in the 2010s, has a long history of interaction with many other regional musical styles and genres. Many European scholars claim that Arabic music has Persian origins. It is an amalgam of the music of the Arab people in the Arabian Peninsula and the music of all the peoples that make up the Arab world today. As was the case in other artistic and scientific fields, Arabs translated Greek texts and works of music and developed the musical theory of the Greeks i.e. Systema ametabolon, enharmonium, chromatikon, diatonon.

After scoring back-to-back album hits with Demons and Wizards and The Magician's Birthday, Uriah Heep had suddenly become a major attraction in the world of rock & roll. They capitalized on their newfound popularity with extensive touring and, since they lacked the time in their schedule to knock out a new studio album, their label decided they should release a live album to fill the gap. The result was Live: January 1973, the definitive live recording of the classic Uriah Heep lineup and a good indication of what made the group so popular among heavy metal fans during their heyday.

With Revolver, the Beatles made the Great Leap Forward, reaching a previously unheard-of level of sophistication and fearless experimentation. Sgt. Pepper, in many ways, refines that breakthrough, as the Beatles consciously synthesized such disparate influences as psychedelia, art-song, classical music, rock & roll, and music hall, often in the course of one song…

With 63 tracks and a total running time of just under four hours, Dust On The Nettles examines the metamorphosis that British folk underwent during the late 1960s, when the influence of psychedelia and the counterculture saw the idiom being twisted into all kinds of new and exotic shapes, as the finger-in-the-ear folk clubs of yore were inexorably drawn into a brave new world of Arts Labs, free festivals and the nascent college/university circuit.

Following in the footsteps not only of Universal's many Ultimate Collection, but also the Beatles 1 - a groundbreaking collection in the sense that it proved that a collection that contains all the hits will actually sell on CD (thereby proving the cynical ploy of leaving hits off a compilation in order to sell catalog is flawed) - the Who's 2002 compilation The Ultimate Collection attempts to collect all their hits, all their anthems in one place. It fits that bill very well, providing all the big items from "I Can't Explain" to "Emenince Front" as it spans two discs and 35 tracks. Sure, fans will find personal favorites missing, whether it's "A Quick One While He's Away" or "Athena," while collectors will note that it contains everything from the previous attempt at an exhaustive CD compilation, 1996's My Generation: The Very Best of the Who, but it doesn't matter, because this is the best summation of their career for a general audience yet assembled. It functions as both an introduction and as the one Who album listeners who just want the hits will need.

It was inevitable that Whitney Houston would be subjected to a greatest-hits album after her untimely spring 2012 death, and I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston is the first of these, an 18-track collection containing two new songs a duet version of "I Look to You" with R. Kelly vocals, and the unreleased, Jermaine Dupri-written "Never Give Up," which isn't bad but concentrates on her big hits, emphasizing the oversized show-stopping ballads just slightly. Which isn't to say the fun stuff is missing "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)," "So Emotional," "I'm Your Baby Tonight," and "How Will I Know" are all here but this downplays such confections in favor of seduction and drama. As Houston had more hits in this vein, this is certainly representative, but for fans looking for her effervescent early singles, they'd be better off with other collections. But for those who love the diva, I Will Always Love You captures her in all her glory.

“Imparis” portrays its creators as one of those few genuinely inventive and inspired modern groups that revive the classic spirit of international Progressive Rock and which, instead of borrowing wholesale from their ancestors, as most neo bands do, use only some of their ideas, doing so in such an at once careful and resourceful way that the end result is simply fascinating, proving that our beloved music is still alive…

Brass Construction leader Randy Muller took the group in a wider direction on their sophomore effort, Brass Construction 2 issued in December 1976. Their second LP was still funky, horn-punctuated disco; it just wasn't non-stop funky disco as their gold self-titled debut. Adding more Latin/Afro Cuban rhythms, they had a Top 10 R&B hit with the first single "Ha Cha Cha." It also introduced the irving Spice strings, who give the urgent radio-aired "Screwed" a swirling, almost tipsy feel.

This is the first duo effort to be released by Canada-born, but long time contributor to the San Francisco Bay Area scene trumpeter Darren Johnston, and the legendary guitar iconoclast Fred Frith. They can also be heard together on the fine release “Reasons For Moving,” (Not Two, 2007), alongside Larry Ochs, Devin Hoff and Ches Smith, but in this more intimate musical gathering, the results are truly astonishing. The genesis for this session was originally to provide sounds for a short dance film for filmmakers John Haptas and Kristine Samuelson and choreographer Amy Seiwert in a commission for the SF Dance Film Festival, but as can happen when improvisors are effectively inspired by one another, this led to a full release’s worth of exciting new music.

Scent of Yesterday is a collection of classic Persian Pop or folk melodies arranged for solo piano by composer/pianist Fariborz Lachini. Arrangements are in slower pace than the original pieces which makes the series an excellent choice for background music as well as instructional purposes but more so Lachini tries to bring back and reconstruct some of the best but almost forgotten melodies of his home country in his Scent of Yesterday series to a style enjoyable by today's audience.
