HARSH REALITY are a little-known, proto-prog band born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire out of the remnants of the Freightliner Blues Band (formerly the Revolution) in the early sixties. They released a single for Phillips in 1968 (Tobacco Ash Sunday/How Do You Feel) before releasing their only LP, "Heaven and Hell", on Phillips in 1969. A final single followed soon after, before the band split in 1969. "Heaven and Hell" LP is now a highly-sought rarity, going for hundreds of pounds between eager collectors. For this reason, Harsh Reality is somewhat famous/infamous in collecting circles. Though technically proto-prog, their work represented a marriage between the sounds of Procol Harum and early Deep Purple.

Preservation Records proudly presents the official re-release of the westcoast masterpiece: Face To the Sea by the group Westpoint. Recorded in 1983, and is considered an essential album that represents the westcoast genre. Finally it gets the right treatment; remastered from the orignal mastertapes, jewelcase. Classic soulful westcoast music recorded in Norway in early 80's. First time ever on CD, digitally remastered and strictly limited to 500 copies!

The Cuban-American pianist and composer Aruán Ortiz has finally arrived on the international jazz scene, following a few earlier releases. His excellent new album "Hidden Voices" recorded as a trio with bass player Eric Revis and drummer Gerald Cleaver is the proof. Ortiz, who grew up in Santiago de Cuba, has been called the latest Cuban prodigy to arrive in the US. His carefully structured music is an exciting mix of contemporary classical sounds, afro-cuban rhythms and powerful jazz improvi-sation. All these elements are fused to make a very individual sound.

ESP marks the beginning of a revitalization for Miles Davis, as his second classic quintet – saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams – gels, establishing what would become their signature adventurous hard bop. Miles had been moving toward this direction in the two years preceding the release of ESP and he had recorded with everyone outside of Shorter prior to this record, but his addition galvanizes the group, pushing them toward music that was recognizably bop but as adventurous as jazz's avant-garde.
