    + Spider-Woman Issues #1-2

finally got back her own ongoing series after more than 26 years. In between there had been a miniseries and various appearances in other Marvel titles. Until recently she had been held captive by Skrulls and her good name had been dragged through the mud. Spider-Woman aka Jessica Drew sits around feeling sorry for herself until Abigail Brand offers her the chance to exact a little revenge on the alien race who wronged her by becoming an agent of S.W.O.R.D. and hunting down the remaining Skrulls who are still in hiding. Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev make a great creative team (an Eisner Award winner at that); the first person viewpoint I think is effective and the artwork is beginning to settle down. I noticed a subtle change in Jessica's face though.

It all comes down to this issue as “Dark Reign: The List” culminates in a confrontation between Norman Osborn and Spider-Man. A head-on fight between the two has been hinted at a few times before but, with “Dark Reign” winding down and the series of “List” one-shots meant to signify the first step in Osborn’s fall, this issue is actually more of a teaser to the finale, which is the upcoming "The Siege" storyline. A strong conclusion to the "Dark Reign: The List" series of one-shots from a perfectly paired and confident creative team.

    + Air Issues #1-14 Complete

is an ongoing comic book series published by DC Comics as part of the Vertigo imprint. It was created by writer G. Willow Wilson and artist M. K. Perker. It follows Blythe, an acrophobic flight attendant for the fictional Clearfleet Airlines, who is caught between two forces, the mysterious Etesians and an equally mysterious entity called Zayn. Critics were ambivalent about the first issue but the comic book increasingly gained positive feedback as the succeeding issues came out. Now even multi-awarded Neil Gaiman has compared Air to the works of Salman Rushdie and Thomas Pynchon. Anyhow, here's your chance to see what the fuss is all about--the series current and complete here at Avaxhome.

A disfigured, mentally unstable mercenary who started as a supervillain but gained cult popularity because of the character's peculiar balance of angst and pop culture slapstick blended with an almost non-stop stream of irreverent asides that have the tendency to break the fourth wall (the fourth wall is the boundary between the fictional setting and the audience; when this is "broken", i.e., the character directly speaks to the audience or readers; this means that he or she is aware of his standing in the story vis-a-vis the readers). Hence, "The Merc with the Mouth." The current 5th issue is the fifth part of the initial seven-part story arc entitled, "Head Trips."

Adventure Comics is a comic book series published by DC Comics from 1935 to 1983. It ran for 503 issues (471 of those after the title changed to Adventure Comics), making it the fifth-longest-running DC series, behind Detective Comics, Action Comics, Superman and Batman. It was revived in 2009 by writer Geoff Johns with the Conner Kent incarnation of Superboy headlining the title's main feature, and the Legion of Super-Heroes in the back-up story. The first issue of the new run of Adventure Comics was released on August 12, 2009, and features watermarked numbering marking it as both #1 and #504, thus continuing the original numeration of the series concurrently with the volume 2 numeration. The indicia of the comic book also reflects this dual numbering. Prior to that, in February 2009 DC released Issue #0 which reprinted the first Superboy and the first Legion of Superheroes stories and included the Geoff Johns-written "Origins and Omens" story. That preview issue completely threw off an uptight reviewer at IGN who it seemed couldn't care less about the classic Silver Age reprints and who thought it was related to the Superman issue current at the time and the then upcoming Blackest Night event. That just goes to show how little "reviewers" sometimes know, for this title has now hordes of fans and, as shown on the cover of this week's issue #4, an award as well.

It was in (Feb 1974) that the anti-hero first appeared, created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita, Sr. and Ross Andru. Since then the character became a template for several of psychologically-troubled and misanthropic antiheroes that began appearing in mainstream comic books; the Punisher was driven by the death of his family to become a vigilante and is not above killing, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence and torture as means to fight crime. The ongoing series is a relaunch of the vol. 2 and started with a thematic link to Marvel's beginning-to-get-oppressive Dark Reign storyline. Issue #11, however, heralds the beginning of something new... and definitely over the top...

It's the good old basic misunderstanding tale revisited as the X-Men butt heads with the Agents of Atlas with Jeff Parker writing and Carlo Pagulayan doing the art. Clear characterizations and clean, detailed artwork with more than 2 dozen protagonists and foes. Slambang action and a silver age bonus. The cbr of Issue #1 contains the fantastic joined Humberto Ramos variant covers for the series, pictured above.
