Donald Byrd's 1961 recording Free Form is both a smorgasbord of modern jazz styles and a breakthrough album showing the Detroit born trumpeter's versatility and interest in diversity. At age 30, turning down offers to teach and a full decade before turning to commercial funk fusion with his Blackbyrds, Byrd, alongside a wonderful collection of jazz professionals, proves his mettle as an individualist while also stylistically straddling the blurred lines of jazz.

Fiorella Mannoia è una cantante romana nata nel 1954. Prima di intraprendere la carriera di cantante, si inventa stuntman per il cinema, essendo il padre uno stuntman molto affermato. In seguito ad un incidente riportato durante le riprese del film di Alberto Sordi Amore Mio Aiutami, decide di lasciare questa professione per dedicarsi completamente alla musica.
Il primo riconoscimento ufficiale giunge nel 1981 quando al Festival di Sanremo riceve il premio per la critica con il brano, scritto per lei da Enrico Ruggeri, Quello Che Le Donne Non Dicono.
Memorabili restano le sue interpretazioni di brani come Il Cielo d'Irlanda, Inevitabilmente, I Venti del Cuore.

L'album d'esordio dell'artista, MARINA REI, dopo l'apparizione sanremese viene ripubblicato con l'aggiunta del brano proposto al Festival, del remix di "I sogni dell'anima" a cura del celebre Todd Terry - collaboratore, tra gli altri, di Everything But The Girl, Janet Jackson, Madonna e k.d. lang - e della toccante versione in italiano ("… E il paradiso verrà") di un classico del soul di Philadelphia, "If you don't know me by now", grande hit internazionale del 1972 per Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes.
