A lot of music is based on ebb and flow., the building of tension and the release, the anticipation and the payoff. Electronic music is a great example of this. A song will build and build to the point where you think it can't possible contain itself anymore and then comes the drop…

As a founding member of the Meters and Neville Brothers, New Orleans vocalist and keyboardist Art Neville helped immeasurably to shape the contemporary New Orleans funk sound. Neville's first band, the Hawketts, tasted local success in 1954 with the carnival perennial "Mardi Gras Mambo" on Chess. He cut some nice solo singles for Specialty during the late '50s, notably "Cha Dooky-Doo," as well as contributing two choruses of storming piano to Jerry Byrne's 1958 classic "Lights Out".

This particular Rock Goes To College concert from 25th February 1980, features the Robin Trower Band at one of their many peaks. Recorded live from The University of London Union and introduced by Pete Drummond, the show featured here comes shortly after the release of "Victims of the Fury", which contributes several of the eight tracks played. The lineup is Robin's classic three-piece, with the bass and vocal parts given stoic and masterful care by Jim Dewar (not long from the legendary Stone The Crows). The drummer is the American Bill Lordan, who replaced Reg isidore.

The title Blue Again is a giveaway: like many old rock & rollers, Mick Fleetwood returns to his first love – the blues – in 2009, forming the aptly named Mick Fleetwood Blues Band with former Mac running mate Rick Vito on guitar and vocals, Lenny Castellanos on bass, and Mark Johnstone on keyboards. The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band hit the road in 2008 and Blue Again captures their February 2008 show at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, MO, which was a gig not unlike the others on the tour: the group ran through several old Peter Green standards like "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Black Magic Woman" and a bunch of originals by Vito, ending with a cover of Elmore James' "Shake Your Moneymaker."

Canada s Sweetheart of Swing presents a unique blend of vintage 30s-era swing & jazz the new breed of neo-trad jazz stylists. Features guest vocalists Ron Sexsmith and Denzal Sinclaire. "It s time-travel magic whenever Alex Pangman breathes into a microphone and evokes the great jazz femmes of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s". In Alex's own words, "as a longtime devotee of music from the classic genre I find something of a kinship with the music that buoyed nations through the "dirty thirties"… The initial concept of this record was to honor that kind of spirit with songs popular in 1933, recorded while I was 33…

Frank Sinatra was arguably the most important popular music figure of the 20th century, his only real rivals for the title being Bing Crosby, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles. In a professional career that lasted 60 years, he demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain his appeal and pursue his musical goals despite often countervailing trends. He came to the fore during the swing era of the 1930s and '40s, helped to define the "sing era" of the '40s and '50s, and continued to attract listeners during the rock era that began in the mid-'50s. He scored his first number one hit in 1940 and was still making million-selling recordings in 1994. This popularity was a mark of his success at singing and promoting the American popular song as it was written, particularly in the 1920s, '30s, and '40s…

Häx Cel from Hanover existed between the end of 1971 and the autumn of 1972, releasing one LP and one 7-single on Dizzy Records, both of which have so far been hardly known even among collectors. Many fans of a fusion between classical music and progressive rock will appreciate this effort. We are not dealing with a cheap Ekseption or Renaissance clone but rather with very creative music which is convincing even without the use of a guitar. Zwai features a live recording of their last gig on October 29th, 1972. The two tracks of their single, Albinoni and Difference, are included as bonus tracks on the CD, which therefore features Häx Cel’s complete works…

Nazareth are a Scottish hard rock band, founded in 1968, that had several hits in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, and established an international audience with their 1975 album Hair of the Dog. A unique group in the Italian scene, Opus Avantra mixed together contemporary classical music with avantgarde and a light progressive rock inflience, giving an original result that's often considered too difficult to listen for straight prog rock ears. Their name was obtained from their three main interests, opera, avantgarde and traditional music.Formed in Veneto in 1973 around the nucleus of soprano Donella Del Monaco (the niece of famous tenor Mario Del Monaco), pianist-composer Alfredo Tisocco, philosopher Giorgio Bisotto and producer Renato Marengo, and aided in the years by many other musicians, the group released their first album in 1974, Opus Avantra - Donella Del Monaco (often referred to as Introspezione, from the title of the first track) on the collectible Trident label.

Andy Fraser, best known as bass player for Free/Sharks and composer of the rock anthem "All Right Now", released these two underrated albums in 1975/'76, and they have been next to impossible to find until now. Believe it or not, Fraser took much flak at the time for having the nerve to release a "rock" album with bass, drums and keyboards only…

American Blues played by world class musicians. Shoes Blues is a collection of traditional blues covers from blues greats plus original songs written by "in demand" Nashville/Muscle Shoals players and song writers. Credits of the band members include studio and touring with such greats as Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Delbert McClinton, Etta James, Bobby Blue Bland, Taj Mahal and many other blues/rock artists. Styles of music on this CD are a tip of the hat to Albert King, Little Feat, Ray Charles. BB King, James Brown and the JB's, NRBQ and the Allman Brothers Band to name a few. Started as a "side project," the musicians enjoyed the high quality of performance so much that a decision was made to create this project…

Kim Vincent Fowley (July 21, 1939 – January 15, 2015) was an American record producer, singer and musician. He is best known for his role behind a string of novelty and cult pop rock singles in the 1960s, and for managing the Runaways in the 1970s.In addition, he is credited with being the inspiration behind promoter John Brower's call to John Lennon that resulted in the last-minute appearance of the Plastic Ono Band at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival on September 13, 1969, where Fowley was the emcee. At this event, Fowley also created the iconic experience of having the audience light matches and lighters to welcome a nervous John Lennon to the stage.
