    Progressive Metal

The debut album from the Italian progressive metal band Odd Dimension has been a long time coming, and Symmetrical is a solid release from start to finish. Undoubtedly progressive metal, Odd Dimension rolls in some very intense guitar lines, soaring keyboard passages and touches of straight up rock and power metal – a refreshing mix that proves the band is trying to find its own style and not just imitate those that have come before.

A group of hard-core rockers who spun social upheaval into something fresh, brash and dynamic, The Cult emerged out of Britain's music scene in the early 1980s and quickly rose to the forefront of "Positive Punk." From Ian Astbury's first powerful note to Billy Duffy's last thundering guitar riff, The Cult knows how to rock an audience and this Los Angeles concert is no exception!

One of the most successful of Blue Note's 'blue' period and an album that remains his finest work. Although his tenor sax occasionally grates, this is a brilliant example of late bebop. Supported by Bud Powell (piano), Kenny Clarke (drums) and Pierre Michelot (bass), the simple quartet sound coolly in control. 'Willow Weep For Me' is played with great beauty and 'A Night in Tunisia' is yet another well-crafted version. The wonderful bonus of 'Our Love Is Here To Stay' and 'Like Someone In Love' (from Powell's Alternate Takes) on the CD reissue puts this album in the first division.

Isolrubin BK (real name withheld) made his recording debut on Lustmord’s second album "Paradise Disowned" (1983-1986, Side Effects Records SECD 7), getting credit for "construction, demolition, combustion". From 1987 to 1989 he assisted B. Lustmord with "Heresy" (Soleilmoon SOL 9 CD), providing source material for the recordings. Shortly thereafter he was sent to prison for two years following his conviction for violently assaulting a man in a brawl outside the notorious Pork Pies pub, in South London’s seedy New Cross.

"Geomorphic Resonance", on Soleilmoon Recordings, is an intense evocation of geological processes, glacial movement and erosion. Parkin realises his unique concept of sonic geology through the use of manipulatied field recordings and treated instrumental textures, conjuring up an imaginary land wrought by ice, wind and water. Densely textured compositions convey the harsh edge of nature's forces.

üNN is the solo project of Frank Rueckert, also known as one half of Rauschfaktor. Frank started to develop a deeper interest in music at the age of 11 or 12, being bored and irritated by the stuff which was emanating from his sister’s bedroom (Abba, The Sweet, The Bay City Rollers and all that). „The first time that I heard bands like Human League, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode I was fascinated by their electronic sound.“

Tom Coster's more commercial albums (such as Gotcha!!) were far from bad, and certainly had more soul and integrity than so much of the homogenized drivel labeled smooth jazz. But even so, they failed to adequately demonstrate just how adventurous and commanding a soloist and composer he can be. Like Let's Set the Record Straight and The Forbidden Zone, From the Street is a gutsy, hard-edged and uncompromising fusion date defined by its passion, complexity and spontaneity. Instead of avoiding the cerebral, Coster thrives on it. ~ AllMusic

Legendary vibist Bobby Hutcherson delivers an attractive collection on this, his first recording for the Verve label. Accompanied by an all-star lineup, it's Hutcherson himself who raises Skyline to a level above the average straight-ahead jazz jam, but he is obviously inspired by his young bandmates. Alto saxman Kenny Garrett is especially impressive here. Highlights include a "Delilah" played in a relaxed, slow groove; a beautiful reading of Herbie Hancock's "Chan's Song"; and a lovely piano/vibes duet on the Hutcherson original "Candle." ~ AllMusic

With 'Wounded', the second album from Enchant, the band has put together a collection of songs that are focused on more personal issues than their previous release A Blueprint Of The World. Based out of the San Francisco area, Enchant has made a name for themselves with fans of bands such as Marillion, Rush and Dream Theater. Their dense sounding instrumental tracks combined with their melodic lead vocals makes for challenging yet accessible music.
