After her first two releases for Universal Jazz Spain “Como Agua Entre los Dedos” (Like Water Between the Fingers), and “El Mar de mi Vida” (The Sea of My Life), Eva Cortés ranks among the young and most interesting composers and performers of the jazz scene in Spanish.

Seventy-seven tracks on 5 CDs, 51 of which are previously unreleased, all of which are broken down into three parts: The E.Zee Demos, The Sonic Temple Demos, and Demos 1986 ~ 1989 ~ 1991 (feat. Hot Night Demos, Jam Demos & Ceremony Sessions). Each part comes in a gatefold or tri-fold digipack case with a booklet containing extensive liner notes and artwork from the actual demo tapes. This is far from the best collection of remixes one could put together, but it does indicate how much range they've covered throughout the years, all the while showing what smarts the group has always had in selecting ahead-of-the-curve remixers.

We love this record! Although Gato Barbieri has put out a few snoozers in his career, this amazing first chapter of his Latin venture for Impulse is an incredible record throughout – one of the greatest Impulse sessions of the 70s! Gato returns to his native Argentina for the session – and works with a collective of musicians in Buenos Aires to create a sound that's a startling blend of Latin rhythms and post-Coltrane freeness. Barbieri's tone is amazing, and has a rich Pharoah Sanders-ish spirituality to it – soaring out over acoustic percussion and Latin rhythms with an earthy, organic sound that's completely wonderful!
