Coma's debut album released in 2004

Another historic album of latin jazz by the American vibraphonist Cal Tjader, this time with the trumpeter and arranger Cuban musician Chico O'Farrill. The recording was published in 1967 by the prestigious jazz label Verve, then owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The whole album's musical repertoire is of Latin origin, except the theme 'Round Midnight'. Tjader offers a catalog of jazz vibrations mixed with a range of flavored chachacha, samba, bolero and mambo rhythms in the tastiest line of his fusion style.

The Stranglers, it’s now been almost 38 years since this band came into being. Formed by drummer Jet Black in ’74, the line-up has gone through a few changes throughout the years, finally culminating (at the time of this recording) in Jet, JJ Burnel, Dave Greenfield, Paul Roberts on vocals and ex Toy Doll Baz Warne on guitar, the latter two replacing Hugh Cornwell’s role in the band since 1990. This performance was filmed at the end of 2005 at the Shepherds Bush Empire, and although I wasn’t at this particular gig (mainly due to the terrible visibility for short-arses like me at the venue) I did spot my brother in the audience at the beginning – thoroughly enjoying himself with the plethora of other 40+ year old males that have always made up The Stranglers fan-base.

This album is dedicated to the Golden Strings Orchestra, offering a repertoire of 12 songs adapted to the brilliant sound of orchestral strings. The repertoire includes a selection of classic, popular and movies songs. Music brilliantly arranged and performed by the Golden Strings Orchestra, for moments of relaxation and enjoyment.

The band's founder, guitarist and composer Brian Korban recruited Julian Mendez (who sang on the 1986 EP) as well as new members in guitarist Glenn Rogers (ex-Hirax, ex-Steel Vengeance, ex-Deliverance, ex-Vengeance Rising) and bassist Angelo Espino (Bitch, ex-Reverend, ex-Hirax, ex-Anger As Art, ex-Uncle Slam). What the band presents here is not only top-notch musicianship, but most of all very classic-sounding and solid songwriting without any modern experiments. This perfectly balanced blend of power and thrash metal in the best US tradition should appeal to all fans of Metal Church, Reverend, old Metallica, Meliah Rage and Armored Saint.

JUPITER SOCIETY is a Swedish project, led by Carptree member Carl Westholm (formerly of Candlemass/Absrakt Alhebra) The initial release by Westholm and friends under this moniker was issued in 2008. The US label Progrock Records signed them shortly after the release of the first album and in the autumn of 2009 issued their sophomore effort "Terraform".Jupiter Society's take on progressive metal of the space opera variety continues pretty much as hoped and expected on their sophomore effort “Terraform”. Slightly heavier in expression and with a comparatively stronger emphasis on instruments over vocals, the moods are still dark - but perhaps more ominous and less bleak on this most recent effort.
