The film's soundtrack was nominated for a 2013 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.
The original orchestral soundtrack was composed by co-director Tom Tykwer and his longtime collaborators, Reinhold Heil and Johnny Klimek. The trio have worked together for years as Pale 3, having composed music for several films directed by Tykwer, most notably Run Lola Run, The Princess and the Warrior, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, and The International, and contributed music to the Wachowskis' The Matrix Revolutions. Work on the score for "Cloud Atlas" began months before shooting commenced on the film. The orchestra was recorded in Leipzig, Germany with the MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Radio Chorus.

A small tribute to the last date numbers' sequence in our century. The cycle of time reaches its final round, while something global is happening. Meet the paradox of universal existence.

This album's subject is space as human sees it from the Earth: cold, enchanting, saturated with the unknown materia throughout. It sends signals to us and watches over us all the time. But to get his intentions and grandiose purposes is not so easy. You can catch them only by the edge, until they slip away from the mind again.

The war is over, and dust still hangs in the air after bombing. Postwar calm is filled both with heavy aftertaste and hope for the future. It is like an echoes of the incident telling that something new is shining through ahead after all endured misery.

The pianist Irène Schweizer, one of the most important exponents of contemporary Jazz, at the same time rebel and innovator of the highest order, gave a solo recital in the Great Hall of the Tonhalle, which is world-famous for its acoustics. She played a programme which, alongside her own compositions and improvisations, included pieces by Thelonious Monk, Jimmy Giuffre, Carla Bley – and by Dollar Brand.

Dynamically evolving canvas, short sketches in different scenes. This cinematic orchestral music - the result of biannual work - continues the theme about unity with nature, started in the debut album. An attempt to express the creation process of the world wherein we live via music means and majestic orchestra and choir sounds. Listening to the album you may travel sequentially on the main existence stages of the Universe since the moment of its enigmatic origin to the appearance of life on our planet. The raging cosmic ocean without an end. The universal battle of matter and construction of the new, unique, grandiose and accessible only for human imagination. The birth of life and its evolution in the most bizarre and distinctive forms. Splendid landscapes with the infinite expanse of lakes. And finally animate nature, slowly fading into slumber and blossoming again with the coming of spring.

…Though both artist and label hedged bets by explaining it away as an outside work and not the "official" Badly Drawn Boy sophomore album, it's difficult to imagine how Badly Drawn Boy could've improved on The Hour of Bewilderbeast any better than this astonishing work.

Dimlight were founded sometime in 2006 by two members of a now defunct metal project. Soon after, they started working on their first album while performing on various athenian metal/rock scenes.
