Another great rare soul album recorded for a small NJ label in 1981 , although in places in sounds like it was recorded earlier in Philly. The Modern soul dancer ‘I’ll Do Anything For You’ has been popular for many years and is top notch, ‘Slow Down’ and ‘Lets Play Luck’ are also Philly style dancers of note.
There’s a really good 2 step cover of ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’ which takes it a million miles away from the Carpenters original. On the mid tempo stepper ‘Gotta Get Home’ Lee sounds similar to Teddy P as he rips it up, and the ballad ‘Show Me’ is also nice. Classic Rare soul.

On Confessions of a Knife, Groovie Mann and company mix up a healthy dose of funky and organic instrumentation to create industrial music that's more extreme disco than house. A pulsing bass guitar propels the 1990 release, adding a rhythmic and textural depth to the group's sample- and synth-laden sound. Highlight tracks include "A Daisy Chain 4 Satan (Acid and Flowers Mix)" and "The Days of Swine and Roses." Each of the disc's first six cuts possess a fine balance of nihilistic intensity and structural finesse. The momentum fades as "Rivers of Blood, Years of Darkness," a below-average remix of "Kooler Than Jesus," and "Burning Out" languish in a repetitiveness that the record fails to break out of.

One of the most sought-after of all ‘60s cult LPs, 1967’s Hapshash and the Coloured Coat Featuring the Human Host and the Heavy Metal Kids is the sort of record that could only have emerged during the psychedelic era, and a vibrant manifestation of that period’s freewheeling, boundary-breaking spirit of musical adventure. Hapshash and the Colored Coat—the English duo of Michael English and Nigel Weymouth—initially achieved notoriety as a graphic design team whose distinctive visual sensibility placed them at the center of London’s original psychedelic explosion. The pair’s vivid visual imagination spawned album covers and countless posters promoting performances at London’s legendary UFO Club by such acts as Pink Floyd and the Incredible String Band. Those visual works brilliantly captured the London scene’s buoyant, mind-expanding vibe, and feature some of the psychedelic era’s most arresting imagery.

Viking metal gods Skálmöld will be releasing their third album MED VÆTTUM in November on Napalm Records. Devil-horn hand gestures aloft! MED VÆTTUM is the natural next step from previous releases BALDUR (2010) & Börn LOKA (2012). On MED VÆTTUM, Skálmöld "celebrate and perfect Viking Metal with the whole body and pull fans with heroic, mythic texts, epic stories and tangible instrument technology into the spell… These weather-beaten Vikings can neither harm wind nor weather." Blimey. Never mind Bárdarbunga, this sounds like a sonic explosion of monstrous proportions, and we are seriously excited about it.

Steven Halpern is well known for his work using music as a healing tool. In his latest album Ambient Alchemy with talented producer and artist Michael Diamond and guest Michael Manring, he takes the alchemy of sound and ratchets it up into a spectral place of ambient effects and flowing symmetries of audible experience.
The first track on the album is “Ambient Alchemy.” A blend of ambient sound, flute and multi instrumentation takes the listener far inside themselves. Chimes flit in and out as the cloudscape changes, becoming adrift in a sea of peaceful resonance.

The many recordings of keyboardist/composer Danny Wright are difficult to classify. He specializes in three distinct music styles: adult contemporary compositions, Broadway show tunes and movie themes, and classical music. His original compositions tend to be in the adult contemporary mode and are frequently inspired by classical composers such as Beethoven, Pachelbel and Debussy as well as by such Broadway greats as Gershwin, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jerome Kern and Stephen Sondheim.

Genre: Jazz, Vocal Jazz, Soul Jazz | Label: Novus / RCA ‎

Vanessa Rubin at the time of her Novus debut had been a high-school English teacher for seven years. This CD was a good start for her singing career although the results are a little mixed. Rubin displays an attractive voice (sounding great when holding long notes) but at this point in time ballads were not her strong point (on "When We Were One" she recalls Barbra Streisand). In addition, producer Onaje Allan Gumbs cannot resist gumming up the works in a few places with phony strings from his keyboards; he funks up what may be the initial vocal version of Mal Waldron's classic "Soul Eyes"…

Another concept album from the dutch band Kayak but slightly different from Merlin, their previous album. This is more kind of a musical. This double album has a whole range of vocalists who sing like actors in a play with former singer Edward Reekers in the role of narrator. Before the lyrics were written for this album, there was a study on the life of Nostradamus to find out what part of the myth was real. That's why the lyrics hold some alternative views on his life. A lot of vocal harmonies are used to emphasis some of the main idea's and are delightful to listen to though the atmosphere tends to be quite swinging every now and then. So it's obvious the vocals are the dominant element which is new for the band especially when compared to early Kayak albums.

Standing tall and cool in front of a small combo, the Chicago vocalist Rose Colella plumbs the Great American Songbook for her repertory, from Irving Berlin and the Gershwins through Cole Porter and Frank Loesser. In this respect, she fits the mold of many modern jazz singers.

Adrian Crowley returns with his seventh studio album 'Some Blue Morning', due for release on the 10th of November. 'Some Blue Morning' is the follow up to 2012′s Choice Music Prize nominated 'I See Three Birds Flying'.
Crowley achieves a number of interesting and brilliant advances with this collection. The compositions move between sparse dream-state ghost-songs and song-stories to all-out epic numbers with tense nerve-ending strings. We hear essential contributions from members of London string ensemble Geese, cellist Kevin Murphy and singer Katie Kim, amongst others. 'Some Blue Morning' was recorded in Dublin with long time friend Steve Shannon.

Hot on the heels of two decidedly un-Hawkwind-y singles; following in the footsteps, too, of the defiantly transitory Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music album, Quark Strangeness and Charm was the first full flowering of Hawkwind's newly honed drive towards brittle pop, sharp wit, and crystal-clear intent – attributes that, if they'd ever existed in the past, had been entirely overwhelmed by the sheer grandeur of the space rock rocket blast. Now it was the propulsive riffs and deep space echoes that were held in abeyance, and Quark opened as it meant to go on, with "Spirit of the Age"'s tight keyboards, unobtrusive washes, and the utterly captivating – if totally skewed – story of love across the light years.
