Celebrating seven years together, Time and Time Again is the fourth release by The Cookers since the group's recording debut, Warriors (Jazz Legacy Productions, 2010). The band's all-star lineup, who first rose to prominence in the late '60s and early '70s, was initially formed by trumpet player David Weiss, who also serves as musical director. In addition to Weiss, the septet features the muscular frontline of trumpeter Eddie Henderson, tenor saxophonist Billy Harper and alto saxophonist Donald Harrison (replacing Craig Handy), with pianist George Cables, bassist Cecil McBee and drummer Billy Hart manning the blue chip rhythm section.

This is an obscure LP, a duet set featuring violinist Stephane Grappelli and guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli. It thus far has only been put out by the French Ahead label. The music, however, is quite rewarding and not as ballad-oriented as one might expect from the instrumentation. Highlights include "Tangerine," "Alabamy Bound," "Have You Met Miss Jones" and "Black Bottom." Even on songs that he had already played countless times, Grappelli sounds very enthusiastic. Well worth searching for.

The most successful Hungarian rock band in history, Omega is one of the rare bands to have been known outside in his country. Their music is a combination of Eastern European prog with a bit of symphonic and a bit of psyche prog. The result is a dark orchestrated sound combined with extended improvisation. Vasant Rai is one of the world’s most acclaimed masters of Indian music.He emerged a virtuoso on the sarod.(The sarod is a 25-string fretless lute.) In 1973, Rai became a visiting professor of music at Columbia University in New York City. He subsequently founded the Alam School of Indian Classical Music in New York, where he now teaches sarod, sitar, flute, violin, guitar, and voice. He lives in the Chelsea district of New York City, and carries on the pure classical tradition of his homeland, expressing the same universal musical spirit as his guru. But meanwhile, Vasant is exploring new directions.
