Drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts leads his quintet plus guest altoist Kenny Garrett through extended versions of four of his originals (all of which he had recorded previously in the studio) plus Bjork's "107 Steps." While "107 Steps" and "JC Is the Man" (which is more Thelonious Monk than John Coltrane) are fine, it is not until Garrett makes his first appearance on "Mr. JJ" (which is more Coltrane than J.J. Johnson) that this set really explodes. Garrett's passion inspires Watts during their midsong duet and adds a great deal of energy during the three songs on which he appears, completely stealing the show.

In 1979 Edgar Froese met Johannes Schmoelling, who joined Tangerine Dream to reestablish the trio status of the group. This lineup would come to be regarded by many fans as the strongest in the band's history. The first record project of the new line-up was "Tangram" (the title originating from a very old Chinese puzzle), released in the spring of 1980. It was recorded in Chris Franke's new Polygon studio complex in Berlin, and once again the music filled up two complete sides of an LP and had a warmer, almost symphonic sound than previous TD albums. "Tangram" is regarded to be one of the most dramatic albums ever released by the group. The mixture of smoothness with familiar TD elements landed the album in the British Top 40.

This is Atrox`s debut album. There is a more accesible and sober style to the music, than in they`re later work. Another big difference is that Gersa the male vocalist was still in the band, so we get male growl vocals in adition to Monikas unique style of singing, wich isnt as "far out" as on the next two albums. Mesmerized is by no means a standard goth metal album by the beauty and beast kind. The music is more eclectic and less polished.

For veteran California saxophonist Ernie Watts, here is another example of why he is one of the finest exponents of modern jazz going. This CD is one in a long line, pre-and-post his work with Charlie Haden's Quartet West, that identifies him as an individualist. Since his sound on tenor so closely mirrors Michael Brecker's, and they are peers, the question will always be – who came first, and who influenced who? Clearly John Coltrane's muse is extant in both, and they have developed personal voices. Analog Man succeeds on different levels. Francois Moutin's "Clinton Parkview" is a fresh neo-bop piece with effortless, attractive rhythm changes. On soprano sax, of which Watts is an underrated giant, he displays flawless tone, technique, and unlimited sweetness on the modal "Paseando."

Steeve LAFFONT grew up in France in a family of Sinti , originally from Italy, now based in Perpignan. Self-taught, he began playing piano at 6 years and his uncle Mario PETRICCIOLI bought him his first guitar three years later. That’s when the passion for music and especially for his new instrument actually begins. It discovers and learns a natural harmonies and rhythms of the original music of Django Reinhardt when he then added his compositions, influenced by the rhythms of modern jazz. It’s only a few years, a level that allows him to play during musical evenings with family and friends with the greatest jazz manouche: Tchavolo Schmitt, Bireli Lagrene, Raphal Fays, Stochelo Rosenberg and Boy Bauer.

”A voice that is warm and tremendously expressive - sometimes revealing a touch of fragility - and whose emotional register ranges from delicate modesty to explosiveness, without falling for the temptation of over dramatizing. Add to this a talent for phrasing and a rhythmic emancipation that makes the music come alive in a way I have not experienced in any other Danish singer. It is equally rare to encounter a CD release containing a series of newly-written songs that are such gems.” (Boris Rabinowitsch)

GarciaLive Volume Five: December 31st, 1975 Keystone Berkeley celebrates the Jerry Garcia Band's three set performance at the storied Keystone Berkeley. While Garcia celebrated many new years on stage with the Grateful Dead, this performance holds the distinction as the Jerry Garcia Band's lone New Year's Eve appearance. Fresh off a Winter tour which yielded the transcendent performances captured on 2009's Let It Rock live release, Garcia is joined for this performance by mainstay John Kahn on bass, Sly and the Family Stone drummer Greg Errico and legendary rock pianist Nicky Hopkins.
