Zosja brings the listener a new swinging sound. In their music they travel trough different styles such as Jazz, Soul, Funk and African. Melody, groove and virtuosity is what they carry along on this travel. They create their arrangements making use of mystic Arabic sounds to bouncing and highly danceable grooves. The whole sounds energetic, sparkling and optimistic. On the debut album ''Around the Sun'' most compositions are written by drummer Daniel van Dalen. Along with Pieter Althuis on bass and Lucas Meijers on guitar, lead singer Zosja surprises the audience with their cross-over Jazz sound…

Miles Davis began playing with Sonny Rollins around 1949-50, shortly after the trumpeter left his chair in the Charlie Parker Quintet. After I quit playing with Bird, wrote Miles in his Autobiography, I just went across the street and got a job at the Onyx Club. I got Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone, Roy Haynes on drums, Percy Heath on bass, and Walter Bishop on piano. I tried not to look back. Their existing recorded output, however, dates between 1951 and 1957. This 1951 session finds them in great form playing along other jazz masters such as Jackie McLean, Walter Bishop, Jr., and Art Blakey. Two songs that complete the session but were not included on the original LP have been added as a bonus, among them Conception, on which the great Charles Mingus replaces Tommy Potter on bass.

Mechanix is the tenth album by the British hard rock band UFO; it was released in 1982. The contemporary music-press adverts on the album's release carried the tag-line 'Mechanix: it will tighten your nuts'. Immediately after the completion of the tour in support of the album, founding member and bassist Pete Way left the band to join former Motörhead guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke in Fastway.

Norwegian bassist Andersen's reputation in Europe over the decades is well established. He has appeared on a number of significant recordings, most notably Jan Garbarek's SAGN, and with his own iconoclastic ensemble Masqualero. IF YOU LOOK FAR ENOUGH distills those past endeavors into a most atmospheric, spacious outing. The more traditional elements of Andersen's heritage meet face-to-face with a profoundly European free-jazz sensibility.

The soundtrack to a smoky late night bar in Chicago, or a hot Sunday afternoon down at the Popcorn. If you feel the cold sweat of soul, and the cool chills of haunted crooners singing out their final swansong, or the sinful shakes of R&B in it's twilight years, then you have a bad case of Slow Grind Fever. This is a collection of haunting, hungry, heartbroken humdingers full of swing, sway and sleaze. With obscure B-sides sitting next to some of these great artists' last outings on wax.

Shadoks reissues the second album by South African heavy proggers The Third Eye. Searching shortly followed after their debut, originally released by Polydor in 1969. Today, originals of this album are rare as gold-dust and among 2 or 3 others, the most valuable collector's items from South Africa. Many collectors who have basically everything in their collection are missing this one. The music is heavier, the lyrics full of political statements, and it's more psychedelic and a bigger step down into the musical underground.

Toss into the musical blender the spirits of Stevie Wonder, Crusaders, Van Halen, Sting, Dr. John, and Chick Corea; turn on the fire, low for easy simmering blues-rock at times, high for a fiery intensity that busts the borders between R&B and fusion. The result: the Dave Weckl Band's hard-to-categorize adventure, Rhythm of the Soul. Here, he celebrates his liberation from Corea's Elektric fold with a vengeance.

The lineup is quite different from the one that became famous during the mid-1970s. This edition of the group would be disbanded after its second album.

    Classical / Symphony

Yannick Nézet-Séguin's first symphonic recording with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra on Deutsche Grammophon is of Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 in B minor, "Pathétique," which the conductor has known intimately throughout his career. Due to his familiarity with the music, this is a solid reading that holds its own against the large number of recordings of this symphony, so listeners who need a first-rate version can be assured of the interpretation and the performance. Yet because this is one of the most frequently recorded classical pieces of all time, one may wonder what Nézet-Séguin brings to it that makes his rendition necessary.

White Zone is the nineteenth studio album by Hawkwind, released under the band name Psychedelic Warriors in 1995. The name change reflects that this was a musical departure for the band; being a more experimental electronic offering rather than rock, the album is completely instrumental (except for samples) and there is little guitar featured.

In a 2001 Norma Winstone interview, the British vocalist referred to Kenny Wheeler as "the Duke Ellington of our time." Wheeler, whose reputation has grown almost in spite of his own quiet humility, may not possess Ellington's populist cachet, but that doesn't mean the trumpeter's music is any less distinctive or groundbreaking, and with no small reach: his music, studied in detail at universities around the world; his large ensemble work, grist for many a big band. Not being a household name needn't mean lack of significance, with Wheeler's place in jazz history long since assured as one of the most important composers of the last half century.

Cliff Bennett may not have scored a hit with this album, but he proved he was a survivor; it was as solid a body of music as he'd released across the previous eight years, and thoroughly contemporary (for 1971) as well. The record is steeped in a soul sound that was totally convincing for its time – Bennett was a veteran shouter who lacked the distinctive edge of, say, Rod Stewart, Steve Marriott, Eric Burdon, or Chris Farlowe – but with the right material his talent could soar with the best of them, and with the best material (to which he seldom got access) he could outdo them.
