The danceable R&B/Funk on this glorious two disc career overview will set the scene for a number of forthcoming releases from the De-Lite, Solar and Sugarhill catalogues, uncovering some of the best urban music of the '70s and '80s. Originally known as Ben Iverson and the NueDey Express, the newly Christened Crown Heights Affair relocated to De-Lite Records in 1975. With the benefit of worldwide distribution, the group achieved immediate success for the singles "Dreaming A Dream", "Every Beat of My Heart", "Foxy Lady" and "Dancin'".

The band was formed by childhood friends Yoshiki and Toshi in 1976. Lots of places on the internet to look up information on them. Just search for "X Japan" and "X-Japan" and "XJapan". Their music was an unusual blend of speed metal and ballads - hard rocking, guitar ripping, pounding beats blended with beautiful melodies - played by some of the best guitarists in Japan, one of the best drummers in the world (seriously) and sung by some guy with a voice sometimes like an angel, sometimes like a devil. All the songs are their own original compositions. They were also one of the pioneers of visual kei "Visual Shock" - well you can find out about that by looking up the band itself.

No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims was an outstanding international debut from Danish rockers D:A:D, following two promising efforts on the European Mega label. Irresistible lead-off single "Sleeping My Day Away" combined a rhythm guitar straight out of the AC/DC handbook, spiced by melody lines performed with a country-ish, '50s-style guitar twang – a unique formula that the band successfully applied to other standouts like "Point of View" and "Lords of the Atlas." "Rim of Hell" is a stomping party anthem riding a monstrous, mid-paced groove, and the band also rocks out full-throttle on "Jihad," "True Believer," and the almost Metallica-heavy "Ill Will."

After being shamefully dropped by EMI following a number of commercial and critical stiffs to close out the 1980s – a decade that ironically had started so gloriously for them – Saxon began their long climb back to respectability with their tenth studio album, 1990's tellingly named Solid Ball of Rock…

At nine discs and 244 tracks, The Complete Stax-Volt Singles: 1959-1968 is far too exhaustive for casual fans, but that's not who the set is designed for – it's made for the collector. Featuring every A-side the label released during those nine years, as well as several B-sides, the set is a definitive portrait of gritty, deep Southern soul. Many of the genre's major names – Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Booker T. & the MG's, William Bell, Rufus Thomas, the Bar-Kays, Albert King – plus many terrific one-shot wonders are showcased in terrific sound and augmented with an in-depth booklet.

Another great example of what Rhino does so well, Anthology brings together no less than 27 of Tommy James and the Shondells' nuggets on one disc. Along with good liner notes from Parke Puterbaugh, who interviewed James extensively (James himself contributes a slew of fun and informative anecdotes about many of the songs) and the usual skilled remastering job, it makes for one heck of a collection.

Though he has been exiled to Turkey since civil war broke out in his native Syria, Omar Souleyman, arguably the world's most recorded wedding singer, has been making the rounds of the globe's festival stages, from Bonnaroo and All Tomorrow's Parties to WOMAD, Field Day, Big Ears, and SXSW. Four Tet's Kieran Hebden did a beautiful job in being largely inconspicuous when he produced 2013's Wenu Wenu, Souleyman's official debut studio album (after a slew of comps and — literally — hundreds of live cassettes).

The remastering on the box is exactly the same as the newly upgraded CDs, and everything but the demo is available on other discs.

The Italian band RANESTRANE was formed back in 1998, although it would take them more than a decade before they started releasing any material. "A Space Odyssey Part One: Monolith" is their third studio album, and was released through the Italian label MaRaCash Records. Ranestrane is a band that has specialized in the creation of concept albums based on movies, and in this case it is "2001: A Space Odyssey" that is the source of inspiration…

Music - The Universal Language (Musik - Sprache der Welt) presents a series of landmark sessions from Deutsche Grammophon's uniquely rich archive, important recordings of conerstone composers such as Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Dvorák and Grieg; however, it also takes in "modern" composers such as Stravinsky and Falla. And more modern still, from DG's remarkable initiative Musica Nova, a series which championed postwar German composers, come selections of works by Karl Amadeus Hartmann and Karl Höller. A significant number of CD premieres is included.
