EAC Rip | FLAC (Tracks) +CUE, LOG | 704 MB | Covers Included
    R&B | Label: Edsel / Demon | Catalog Number: EDSS 1057

Released by the U.K.’s Edsel label in 2011, this compilation has a title that is somewhat misleading. The Best of the Arista Years contains Showmen and Chairmen of the Board leader General Johnson's self-titled 1976 album – co-produced with Rick Chertoff – in its entirety. The remainder of the disc consists of the disco version of one of the album’s A-sides, “Don’t Walk Away,” the B-side “Ready Willing and Able,” the 12” version of the 1977 single “Let’s Fool Around,” and the 12” disco version of another 1977 single, “Can’t Nobody Love Me Like You Do.” While none of it quite matches Johnson’s best moments with Chairmen of the Board, it’s all sturdy, disco-laced mid-‘70s soul, comparable to what the likes of Willie Hutch and Johnny Bristol were releasing at the time. Each one of the A-sides impacted the R&B chart, with the Top 25 “All in the Family” the most successful of all. This is likely the first time any of the material has appeared on compact disc.

At Infinity Hall, backed by one of the best bands in the business, Cray blazes through a scorching set that includes tracks from his brand new album "In My Soul".

Welcome to the Wrecking Ball! is Grace Slick's 1981 follow-up to her solo album Dreams (1980). Her third solo album, it was released before stepping back into her old position in Jefferson Starship. The lyrics of the first track include numerous references to Slick's dislike of rock journalists and critics. The songs Slick wrote for side-B of the album are closer in style to the psychedelic songs of Jefferson Airplane than to the songs on the previous album Dreams, and the song "No More Heroes" contains vocal overlays and tape effects speeding up and slowing down the song. The album rose to #48 on the Billboard charts.

Label: Sony Legacy | Release Year: 2015

Sony's 2015 budget-line compilation Playlist balances rarities and hits. The rarities usually arrive in the form of live tracks and are often some of Ben Folds Five's biggest hits — "Underground" and "Battle of Who Could Care Less" are both here as live versions, not studio. There are also covers — "Video Killed the Radio Star," a live version of "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" — along with the singles "Brick," "Song for the Dumped," and "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces," helping this to turn into a nice sampler of the trio's range, humor, and talent.

Like John Lee Hooker, Memphis Slim was very much a label-hopper – from the '40s to the '80s, it was safe to assume that the singer/pianist wouldn't stay at one label for too long. In the '50s, Slim did some of his best work for United, a Chicago-based indie whose catalog has since been acquired by Delmark (another Windy City label). Slim's United period of 1952-1954 is the focus of The Come Back, a 20-track collection that Delmark assembled in 2002.

This is home in the sense that these are the streets I grew up in, this is where my friends are. But that's home because that's where my parents came from and they always talk about that and I dream about it. – Juan Flores Alto Saxophonist and Composer Miguel Zen¢n asked his friends the question he had been asking himself: What does it mean to be Puerto Rican in 21st-century New York City? That was the point of departure for Identities Are Changeable, the startlingly original album by Miguel Zen¢n, who grew up in the island's main city of San Juan and came to New York in 1998 to pursue a career in music.

Tir Na Nog expanded their horizons on their 1972 sophomore release by adding drums (Barry DeSouza) and bass (Larry Steele), as well as some effective string arrangements. Produced by the legendary Tony Cox (Caravan, Françoise Hardy, Family), A Tear and a Smile retained all of Sonny Condell and Leo O'Kelly's offbeat phrasing, playful melodic deviations, and pastoral balladry, while subtly turning an eye to the prospects of a little commercial appeal…

The breathtaking 'puirt a beul' (mouth music) of Gaelic vocalist Kaela Rowan brings a captivating and energising new element to the band's sound, and further confounds any attempt to categorise them. The Untied Knot continues the Shoogles's worldwide influences, this time hitting the road from Mallaig in Scotland to Marwar in Rajasthan.

Even as "the fourth tenor" has become one of the world's most popular and renowned classical and operatic singers, Andrea Bocelli has been teasing pop fans over the years by recording brilliant duets with the likes of Celine Dion and Sarah Brightman. Who better to helm the Tuscan-born vocal giant's first pure pop album than David Foster, who has made foreign language singing all the rage by introducing the world to Josh Groban? Amore features songs from various musical eras, from the 1920s through the '80s, which Bocelli sings in his native Italian, Spanish, and French…

For the eternal romantic: Eleven unforgettable selections include the poignant Matt Dusk and Eleanor duet To Make You Feel My Love, Always On My Mind, Fields of Gold and Both Sides Now. The song selection for Runaway started simply: three songs that Eleanor McCain simply couldn’t live without. The New Brunswick native found it a tough, but comforting challenge. “I’m drawn to songs that emphasize the human connection, most of which happen to be love songs.” With producer Matt Dusk and co-producer Shelly Berger helping with the selection, there are eleven songs - some familiar classics, others soon-to-be-discovered…
