Immunity marked a return to solo work for Rupert Hine after a few years with Quantum Jump. Early-'80s synth-pop did not age very well as a genre, but this album (like maybe Jon Anderson's Animation) is a stellar exception. Originally released in 1981, re-released and digitally remastered in 1989. The album was dedicated to Liam Byrne. A superstar producer with a unique sound on his own recordings. Turning 90 in December 2013, Menahem Pressler was the pianist of the legendary Beaux Arts Trio for almost 55 years, and continues to enjoy a blossoming career as soloist and recitalist, while remaining as committed to teaching as ever. For the greater part of his life, Pressler has lived with the two great sonatas recorded here, and has recounted how he studied Beethoven’s Sonata in A flat major, Op.110 as a young man after having fled Nazi Germany for Israel in 1939: ‘I didn't really understand many of the things that I understand now. I only understood the enormous emotional… tearing, tearing on my insides…’

Mozart Double Piano Concertos is Arthur and Lucas Jussen’s first orchestral recording, featuring two of the most famous works composed for two pianos. Ever since they performed for the Dutch queen in 2005 at the ages of just 12 and 8 years old and becoming the first Dutch artists to sign with the historic Yellow Label, Deutsche Grammophon, the Jussen brothers are regarded as something of Dutch national treasures.

Machiavel's story is a whale of a tale, beginning when drummer/vocalist Marc Ysaye and bassist Roland Degreef left Moby Dick to pursue prog rock in their native Belgium. Soon fleshed out to a quintet that included Mario Guccio (vocals), Albert Letecheur (keyboards) and Jean-Paul Devaux (guitar), the band hit their stride on "Jester" (1977) and "Mechanical Moonbeams" (1978). As the '80s dawned, Machiavel shifted away from playing purely progressive music, which led to the departure of Letecheur, followed by Devaux (who was replaced by Thierry Plas)…

One of the most talented bands of the '70s, Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan is the groups' fourth release in close to three years. Although this effort doesn't have the epiphanies of 1974's Rufusized, Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan has them becoming more established as one of the best bands in R&B and pop. The first track, Gavin Christopher's "Fool's Paradise" displays Khan's skill at screaming notes and making complex ideas sound simple, and vice versa.

In the early '70s, Rufus was one of the most popular and interesting bands in R&B and rock. Of course, the reason was Chaka Khan, who possessed an amazing voice that was well versed in rock and jazz every bit as much as R&B. Their debut went nowhere, Rags to Rufus offered two instant classics, and Rufusized displayed their skill as album artists. Truth be told, this version of Rufus was nearly a brand-new band, as three members exited and guitarist Tony Maiden and bassist Bobby Watson joined up. The result was a funkier and more talented band who would give Khan the needed earthy and ethereal mix that would make her soar.

PENDRAGON's release of "The Masquerade Overture" represents one of the 90's strongest prog releases yet! This brilliant recording sets new heights for neo-prog acts in terms of complete recordings. "The Masquerade Overture" really does capture the essence of concept-like story line and takes the listener into a completely new world. I love the mix of opera, orchestra and the symphonic tendency of PENDRAGON which seems to work to perfection on this release. There are some nice and tasty guitar / bass parts scattered throughout all of the songs. At several key points I get a strong PINK FLOYD feel, but I may be the only one who gets this? Nick Barrett adds some great vocals throughout which give it that unmistakeable PENDRAGON feel.
