Jeremy Pelt has the most beautiful trumpet tone exercised today. One needs to listen no further than his cover of Mingus' "Weird Nightmare," where one cannot distinguish his trumpet from his flugelhorn, save for a period in the middle section. On this piece, Mr. Pelt's tone is round and buttery warm in the first and third sections and simmering in the middle. Backed by a string quartet on several pieces, a "with strings" connotation would not have been off base. In fact, this disc would be comparable to Chet Baker with Strings had Baker had a modicum of Pelt's creative sense…

FONYA is a duo made of FOURNIER brothers (Chris, multi-instrumentist and Phil, singer). American band who delivers a most instrumental and a very spacious (and spacey) melodic progressive rock. Throbbling rythms and crunchy guitars compose a nice atmosphere with layered keyboard textures producing a nice blend of symphonic space and psychedelic music. Many bands can be pointed as influences here, but CAMEL, ELOY and OZRIC TENTACLES are the most clear ones. The very first Fonya album "Wanderers of the Neverending Night" is the best one in his solid and stable discography of seven albums in all.

People reaching for 'Ten' already knowing Kroke will find there all that is best of the trio's music. Music lovers that will meet the emotion-inducing trio for the first time will be captivated from the first few bars of Bright Clouds. 'Ten' is the most diverse of Kroke albums, as if the musicians wanted to encapsulate everything that over the years has been their assets. It is, however, by no means a result of conscious measures, but emotions and state of mind of both the musicians and Dariusz Grela, who, by recording the subsequent Kroke albums, became their co-author. One of the pieces from the newest album has been credited to Anna Maria Jopek, who introduced a novelty into Kroke's repertoire – lyrics. Nevertheless, the composition matches the recognisable Kroke stylistics combining beautiful melodies with improvising and melancholy with an energetic pulse.

Swedish death metal veterans GRAVE will release their new album, "Out Of Respect For The Dead", on October 16 via Century Media. The CD's eerie artwork was again created by Costin Chioreanu, who has been responsible for the band's last three albums as well as the "Morbid Ascent" EP. Chioreanu is also known for his collaborations with such acts as AT THE GATES, PARADISE LOST and ARCH ENEMY.

Biota was founded in 1979 in Fort Collins, Colorado, as the Mnemonist Orchestra. Over the years, the Mnemonist Orchestra developed into Biota (the musical contingent) and Mnemonists (the visual contingent). Both Biota and Mnemonists work as one on productions of musical and visual components. Imagine if a jazz trumpeter from a smoky nightclub, a group of Eastern European and Middle Eastern folk musicians, an indie-pop band that sounds like a cross between Blonde Redhead and Circulatory System, and an experimental ambient-electronic musician all got together to record an album for aliens underwater. Yes, it's a glib description. But Biota's music isn't too easy to describe. It rarely sounds like any other music out there, and when you do notice something familiar, it quickly gets enveloped in other sounds or disappears into a complex sonic haze. Different musical phrases often overlap, and sometimes it seems that entirely independent pieces are happening at the same time.
