Style: Electronic, House | Label: SPP Records ‎

Stéphane Pompougnac, better known as the master of lounge music à la française, is about to make his great comeback in early 2014 with the release of his highly anticipated third album ‘Bloody French’. Drawing influences from the slight melancholy of electro sounds and the tribal rhythms of house music, Pompougnac has created a unique sound for this LP, which signs the maturing of his personal style without betraying its origins.

In 1973, fed up with Bryan Ferry's domineering in Roxy Music, Eno leapt into a solo career that would find him championing the "art" in "artifice." This record is a who's who of the then-burgeoning English art-rock scene, featuring Robert Wyatt, Robert Fripp, and every member of Roxy Music except its leader (thus answering the musical question, "What if Eno had helmed the third Roxy record instead of Ferry?"). Warm Jets sports a lightheartedness that was a refreshing antidote to the pomposity of Yes and ELP on the dark side of art-rock's spectrum, with nonsensical, sound-based couplets such as "Oh headless chicken / How can those teeth stand so much kicking?" This debut is a milestone not just for Eno, but for all rocking music. Listen to Fripp's furious guitars on "Baby's On Fire" and "Blank Frank." It's incredible, Velvet Underground-inspired rock in a scene that had forgotten what rocking meant.

Col Legno's third volume of Wolfgang Rihm's string quartets is, like its predecessors, an album of vigorous and challenging works that defy easy descriptions, resist stylistic associations, and put listeners on their mettle. If the fragmentary gestures, sudden digressions, and unconventional sounds (wood blocks, voices) of the String Quartet No. 7, "Veränderungen" (1985), are signs of Rihm's restless search for a music freed of expectations, then the …..

With the exception of a few works by Ottorino Respighi, and for reasons which are relatively obscure, the orchestral concert music of the generation of Italian composers to which Ildebrando Pizzetti belongs has—so far as international acceptance is concerned—remained little-known outside Italy. It can be claimed that this relative disregard surely has more to do with fashion and performing circumstance than with the quality of the music, and, of these undoubted masters, it is the art of Ildebrando Pizzetti which is perhaps most in need of reassessment and revival …….

Psyrius is 26 year old Andreas Lindholm from Sweden. He started producing electronic music since he was 13 years old. Andreas came up with the name Psyrius by blending the word psychedelic into Sirus (which is the brightest star seen from earth after the sun). The music coming from Psyrius is mostly with a mystic, atmospheric, melodic and deep feel.

Although from a historical standpoint Les Paul is perhaps best remembered for his invention of the solid-bodied electric guitar and his groundbreaking efforts in multi-tracking, this should not overshadow his considerable talent as a performer and virtuoso master of the guitar. Originally highly influenced by Django Reinhardt, by the time these recordings were made, Les Paul had developed a unique style that has gone on to influence countless others…

Django was easily the greatest guitarist of his time. Although he died in '53, his influence continues to help shape the direction of his instrument. The re-release of these rare recordings is no small cause for celebration. They feature Django in a number of settings from '34 to '41, with Joseph Reinhardt, Juan Fernandez, Johnny Hodges, Duke Ellington (and his orchestra), Pierre Michelot, Hubert Fol, Stephane Grappelli, and more. This is a recording no jazz fan will be able to pass up.

Displaced is the long awaited debut album by Elizabeth Cornish. The 11-track album is a collection of songs written over 6 years and touches on themes of transition, growth, overcoming barriers and moving on. The album is in many ways the culmination of Elizabeth’s nomadic upbringing, having been written while packing and unpacking boxes, saying goodbye to friends and family and an array of different sceneries.

    Jazz, Post Bop | MP3 320 kbps CBR | 53 min | 123 MB
    Label: Audioquest | Rel: 1998

For this mostly relaxed date, tenor saxophonist Bennie Wallace (who plays pretty melodically throughout much of the session) is teamed with veteran pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Alvin Queen. Wallace does his best to temper some of his wilder interval jumps but it is such an integral part of his style that he does let loose in spots. The rhythm section is tight and tasteful and the quartet explores seven standards, plus an original apiece by Wallace ("Little Surprises") and Flanagan ("Beyond the Bluebird"). Other highlights include Duke Ellington's rarely played "Serenade to Sweden," "Moon Song" and "So in Love."

    Label: JVC | Rel: 1993

Like his younger contemporary James Carter (and Joe Lovano, for that matter), tenor saxophonist Bennie Wallace seems able to reference a panoply of jazz legends in his playing. He's got the octave leaps that Eric Dolphy made his own, and a swing-era sense of full-bodied tone and breathy playing, to boot. His renditions of standards on Old Songs, then, sound alternately like Ben Webster, Sonny Rollins, and some genetic hybrid of about six other saxophonists. This set finds tenor sax master Bennie Wallace at the top of his form, putting his indelible stamp on a program of timeless classics. Bennie is joined by Lou Levy, Alvin Queen and Bill Huntington.

The Latin America vibe continues to flow with fellow Brazilian artist Sonic Future once again proving why theyre currently regarded one of the hottest Deep House producing duos in the game. Sumptuous piano melodies and windswept vocal stabs combine to deliver a sublime rework which evokes images of peace, love and happiness.

John Tavener's music has the ability to make time stand still. 'The Protecting Veil' was the first of Tavener's instrumental pieces to become widely known. Tavener, an Orthodox mystic, wrote the solo line as a spiritual improvisation on the Mother of God. The cello stays mainly in the tessitura range, calling songfully into the atmosphere. Sometimes rhythmic and sometimes placid, the music never really touches ground.

Every true believer in the music of Czech nationalist composer Bedrich Smetana will have to check out this three-disc set of his orchestral works with Vladimir Válek leading the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. Not only does it contain Smetana's orchestral masterpiece Má Vlast plus his three fairly well-known tone poems Richard III, Wallenstein's Campo, and Hakon Jarl, it also contains his nearly completely unknown four-movement Triumph Symphony, his almost totally unknown March for Shakespeare, and the Ceremonial Prelude in C major along with three short orchestral dances, the Georginen, the Louisen, and the Our Lasses Polkas.
