Fairyland has long been a favorite among fans of Larry Coryell's jazz-rock days. The stripped-down trio format allows Coryell plenty of solo space. He actually sings quite effectively on the first two tracks, but more effective are the torrents of 18th notes, mutated blues licks, and avant-garde sound textures that emanate from his guitar. "Further Explorations for Albert Stinson" is a later incarnation of "The Jam With Albert," which is a staple of Coryell jazz-rock compilations.

The album Opus combines electronic music with classical music such as Swan Lake. It's also inspired by and based on songs such as Gymnopédie no. 1 by Erik Satie, Edvard Grieg's Solveig's Song, Sergei Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody On A Theme Of Paganini op. 43 and Claude Debussy's Reverie. After Schiller already released some singles with classical influences such as "Ein schöner Tag" (2000) with German singer Isgaard and "Time for Dreams" (2008) with Chinese pianist Lang Lang, it's the first completely classical inspired album of Schiller.

Their daytime gig in the Athens, Georgia indie pop collective Of Montreal gives Davey Pierce and Nicolas Dobbratz plenty of opportunities to glam it up and disco shake, but with this dancefloor-aimed, synth-popping side project, the duo can't stop dancing. On Yip Deceiver's full-length debut, there's a bit of an R&B influence as well, with midtempo cuts like "Lover" coming off as Kavinsky producing Chaka Khan, while Gap Band or Prince sized-lust ("I need a lover, to get me through the haze") fuels the key cut "Get Strict."

Chris Rea was a rock star with the sort of gravel voice that was ideally suited to singing the blues, or was he a blues star who occasionally lent his talent to performing rock. The Road to Hell & Back was his 28th album in total including five different greatest-hits compilations, but was his first live album. Recorded at various venues during his 2006 tour from Warsaw to Moscow and Plymouth, Oxford and Brighton, all the tracks show a tight, together band, the Fireflies led by Chris Rea, not in the best of health but enjoying performing to appreciative, sometimes too polite audiences, who applaud in all the right places (at the end of each song).

Accordeonist and arranger Christos Zerbinos selected 17 well known, traditional greek folk songs, and arranged them for accordion and piano. As he explains in the included booklet: "he decided to go against what was perceived as being 'folk' in the collective consciousness of the Greek people and work towards a different aesthetic direction." Therefore he tried to feel the sound through the colors, the light, the truth and honesty - elements that are hidden within and strive for an elegiac atmosphere. He invited his friend, the talented pianist Miltos Logiades and they recorded this outsatnding instrumental album. As the great Mikis Theodorakis comments in the booklet: "I would describe this work as a magical bridge that connects the Greek folk song with the contemporary one of the 50's and 60's". Enjoy.

Stamatis Spanoudakis is widely regarded as the most prolific Greek composer of his age. Versatile in his music for film, television, records and concerts, he uses a rich and original musical palette that conjures up different perceptions in the sphere of musical imagery. Till 1995, when he decided to concentrate only on instrumental music, he had worked with the most successful Greek singers, bringing out their “other side” by both composing the music and writing the lyrics for a large number of hit songs which are still very present today. This "best-of" collection showcases Spanoudakis' most beautiful "successes with lyrics" from the period 1970-1995. Enjoy a delightful parade of songs featuring a musical blend of new age music with elements of typical greek folk culture, perfomed by top greek singers.

He went on to refine his skills mixing live sound for bands at two of New York's seminal clubs, CBGB's and Brownies. More recently, Tignor has contributed his skills as violinist and string arranger both in the studio and on tour to This Will Destroy You, John Congleton's Nighty Nite, and Lymbyc Systym.

Mass in B minor | "Wedding" Cantata | Bist du bei mir | with Friedrich Schorr, Walter Widdop, Margaret Balfour & Albert Coates

From the notes: "The Story of This Recording: Jenny Lind's contribution to the first performances of the B minor Mass has a parallel in this recording where another opera singer, Elizabeth Schumann, is the soprano soloist in the first complete B minor Mass to be committed to disc. While the Philharmonic Choir and London Symphony Orchestra needed much of the rehearsal time, sessions were so arranged as to take advantage of the presence in London of Elisabeth Schumann and the celebrated baritone, Friedrich Schorr, both under contract for the summer Season of opera at Covent Garden. Walter Widdop, the tenor, was also singing there, but he and Margaret Balfour, a mezzo soprano who was greatly esteemed for her work in oratorio, both lived in London. The conductor Albert Coates, normally associated with Russian music rather than with Bach's also had a comittment at Covent Garden, but was able to devote his complete concentration to the recording because his operatic performances were not scheduled until June. The recording was issued promptly in November 1929 on seventeen plum label 78s."

2014 album from the super group. The Baseball Project, the critically acclaimed alt-rock supergroup featuring Peter Buck (R.E.M., The Minus 5), Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows, R.E.M.), Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Linda Pitmon and Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate), deliver another batch of songs inspired by the great American past-time. This collection continues their tradition of inspired rock songs that provide passionately funny and sarcastically reverent commentary on the sport of baseball. And those who aren't fans of the sport can still enjoy the music, while brushing up on their knowledge.

Elbow recorded their sixth album at Real World Studios, making the connection between themselves and Peter Gabriel plain. Much of this connection comes from the husky, subdued rasp of lead singer Guy Garvey, but the band on a whole favors a similar kind of accessible art rock where the textures are lucid yet elliptical while the songs are sturdy and melodic, wearing their accouterments well.
