Among the symphonies by Allan Pettersson, the Seventh is often accorded a special importance, partly because of the immediate success it enjoyed at its first performance, in 1968, but also because it has come to be perceived as more closely associated than other works with the personal life of its composer. As a result, Symphony No.6, which was premièred less than a year before the seventh, has come to be overshadowed by its successor. It is …..

Album offering twelve items prepared and arranged by musician, arranger and composer John Keating (Scotland, 1927), leading his splendid big band, integrated this time by a total of 23 musicians under his baton (five trumpets, five saxophones, clarinet and flute even, four trombones, four horns and bass, piano, guitar, drum and conga). The recording session was held at Decca Studios in West Hampstead (London) in front of an invited audience, which provides the live environment. In the 60s swing music had a time of rebirth, despite the cost of maintaining great bands, and Keating wanted to revisit with this recording major playing styles of swing of the 40s.

He was the first performer to record Bach's complete works for lute, of which two parts are included here. The repertoire of this album offers a varied assortment of selected topics of great Spanish composers alongside other great creations of world renowned composers.

Dave Mason sounds as good today as he did 30 years ago. This latest live concert "Live At Sunrise" shows that this legendary rock guitarist has not lost a step in his ability to play or sing. The DVD quality is crystal clear with superior digital surround sound. It's is such a pleasure to actually watch a musician with talent who can actually play as compared to these modern day computerized lip-synchronized pop phenoms who can't sing a note let alone play? Dave and his band turn in some fine performances such as "Only You Know And I Know", "We Just Disagree, the Traffic classics, "Dear Mr. Fantasy", and "Feelin' Alright" and a blistering version of "All Along The Watchtower" which has become a standard at a Dave Mason concert. He continues to sing as if he were still 25 years old and this concert is as good if not better then his classic 1976 "Certified live" album.

During the '70s, it appeared as though most rock bands tried to re-create their 'live sound' in the recording studio for their studio albums. But by the early '80s, it was seemed to be the other way around, as studio recordings became increasingly "perfect" sounding.

Fourth in the series of recordings by this Laswell-overseen project, Distill resembles Akasha in that rather than being a collaboration between the participating artists, each contributes a separate track. Like its predecessor, a two-disc affair, Distill otherwise doesn't draw a distinction between the two discs regarding rhythm and ambience - the results are presented for general appreciation, straight up. As a collection of highly regarded names exploring the possibilities of dark ambient music, which more than a few nods to the supposed isolationist scene of the mid-'90s, Distill fulfills its brief well and then some…
