Ottorino Respighi - Violin and Piano Music (complete) Vol. 3
    Classical | EAC: FLAC+Cue+Log | 1 Cd, Covers | 385 Mb
    Label:Genuin - Date:2009

“How it all began…” This is one possible title for the third (and thus unfortunately final) GENUIN release by Ilona Then-Bergh and Michael Schäfer performing works of Ottorino Respighi for violin and piano. First the two play a three-movement sonata fragment composed by Respighi at the tender age of 18 and also (here, too, unfortunately!) left unfinished… After this performance, the two outstanding artists look deep into the master’s composing …..

With two of the Alan Parsons Project's best songs, the lovely ballad "Time" and the wavy-sounding "Games People Play," The Turn of a Friendly Card remains one of this group's most enjoyable albums. Parsons' idea, the subject of the album's six tracks, centers around the age-old temptation of gambling and its stranglehold on the human psyche. On "Games People Play," vocalist Lenny Zakatek sounds compelling and focused, giving the song a seriousness that aids in realization of the album's concept. With "Time,".

Spanish singer-songwriter Russian Red has ready her highly-anticipated third studio album entitled “Agent Cooper“. The album comes preceded by the lead single ‘Casper‘. Kutless is no Shakespeare, George Lucas or Peter Jackson, but they do have a ten-plus year track record of music and a large following in the Christian Music marketplace. Starting out at the turn of the century as students in the Creed school of hard rock, Kutless has alternately released straight ahead rock and roll records with worship albums since almost the beginning.

    Jazz, Hard Bop | MP3 320 kbps CBR | Artwork | 64 min | 152 MB
Label: Storyville Records | Rel: 1998

Pianist Hugh Lawson was 42 when he had his first opportunity to record as a leader. One of the many great pianists who emigrated from Detroit, Lawson spent most of his career overshadowed, but he was an excellent hard bop-based player. Teamed with bassist Bob Cranshaw (heard on acoustic for a change) and drummer Ben Riley, Lawson performs two originals, a few obscurities, Clifford Jordan's "The Highest Mountain," Charles Mingus' "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love," "I Fall In Love Too Easily" and a brief rendition of Bud Powell's "I'll Keep Loving You." A fine straight-ahead effort.

    Label: Factory | Rel: 1996

This Atlanta concert wasn't issued in recorded form for two decades. Archival releases of this sort tend to be for collectors only, but this is a cut above the standard. The sound is very good, the band is pretty tight, and Freddie King solos with fire and sings with conviction, sticking mostly to covers of warhorses like "Dust My Broom," "Key to the Highway," and "Sweet Home Chicago." It's a better deal, in fact, than his studio albums for Shelter in the early '70s, boasting a no-frills small-combo approach that is far more suitable. As a neat bonus, it also contains two solo acoustic performances recorded at a Dallas radio station in the 1970s.

Enigmatic Canadian singer/songwriter and producer Chad VanGaalen is used to wrapping his eccentric songs in interesting, melodic flourishes and his latest is no exception. “Where Are You”, the first song off his new album Shrink Dust, is a crowded and clanking lo-fi pop cut that showcases his continued ability to marry two seemingly disparate worlds.

With a 552-character title that dwarfs Fiona Apple's random stream of consciousness, When the Pawn…, Most of the Remixes… is the first official compilation of the various mash-ups and mixes from the Dewaele brothers produced under their more familiar guise of Soulwax. Like their 2 Many DJ's alias' series, As Heard on Radio Soulwax, the two-CD collection showcases their bootlegging sensibilities on 14 tracks which tackle artists as diverse as operatic prog rockers Muse (on the buzzing synths and crashing cymbals of "Muscle Museum"), Belgian-American, post-industrial outfit Lords of Acid (on a doom-laden techno re-working of "I Sit on Acid"), and Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue (on a scuzzy garage rock retooling of "Can't Get You Out of My Head"). Like most mixtapes, the standards vary.

Some albums just have the perfect name, and Amon Duul's debut nails that to a T. Obscure upon release and obscure even now, for all the cult appeal, Underground is music at its most experimental and relentlessly uncommercial, using late-'60s inspirations as a launching ground for what came to be described as Krautrock. Psych-folk was another common term, one which applies just fine to much of the music here, feeling like an enthusiastic medieval festival gone just out of control enough, and with electricity to boot. Taken from a jam session from the previous year, but treated with many studio effects that enhance the strangeness of the collection, Underground rocks to its own weird beat.
