Even with the advent of LP's, Honegger's music was hard to find on records. The efforts of Charles Munch, and a few recordings which made something of a stir, such as La Danse des Morts, which was graced by the actor Jean-Louis Barrault's inimitable elocution, were more or less one-off successes. Then René Challan and Georges Tzipine came along and made Honegger's major works the centerpiece of their French music anthology, which this series of Rarissimes is gradually restoring to the catalogue. King David, which the composer himself had already recorded, and Joan of Arc at the Stake, championed in a visionary interpretation by Luis de Vocht and his Brussels forces (in a barely veiled protest against the German yoke), were unfortunately nor part of the project. Tzipine wanted to record Nicolas de Flue straight away. This is the last panel (coming after Jeanne au Bücher and the Danse de Morts) of the tryptich of oratorios from the 1940's, and the only one of the three at that time still unrecorded.

Uriah Heep's by-the-books progressive heavy metal made the British band one of the most popular hard rock groups of the early '70s. Formed by vocalist David Byron and guitarist Mick Box in the late '60s, the group went through an astonishing number of members over the next two decades nearly 30 different musicians passed through the band over the years. Byron and Box were members of the mid-'60s rock band called the Stalkers; once that band broke up, the duo formed another group called Spice.

From the time she first performed in front of an audience when she was 17 years old, singer/songwriter Sara K. knew she wanted to live her life making music. She followed her dream and stayed true to her desire, despite the fact that demand for acoustic solo performers was falling off as the end of the '70s approached. Several avenues remained open to her, including fronting her own band, studio work, and backing country music artists, which she did in her hometown of Dallas, TX.

Momento Magico is a solo outing from Swedish guitarist Ulf Wakenius, an exploration of three acoustic instruments—steel and nylon strung guitars and acoustic bass guitar. Wakenius undertakes this exploration across a mix of self-penned tunes and works by writers as varied as Erik Satie, Charles Trenet and Sixto Rodrigues.

Elliott Sharp is one of New York downtown scene's more notorious affiliates, primarily heralded for his avant-garde guitar work, spanning jazz improvisation, jazz-rock, and blues-rock. He's also an accomplished reedman, evidenced on Quintet and previous ventures into the free-jazz space. Sharp once again aligns with like- minded New York-based artists, some of whom are leaders, and busy session artists.
