The venue selected was the Operetka House, essentially an old wood structure in downtown Warsaw. The sound, however, was resinate in the ornate hall and many of the jazz artists that performed over the four-day period commented on the incredible acoustics…

Ernst Pepping was once hot stuff, with conductors of Furtwängler's ilk recording his works. Indeed, there remains a famous 1943 recording of Pepping's Second Symphony with Furtwängler leading the Berliner Philharmoniker that has been reissued on a variety of labels. The conservative German modernist's star has sunk since then, however, and there are barely a handful of his works in print on CD. Pepping's Passion According to St. Matthew, for example, received over 500 performance in the first five years after its premiere, but this recording with Stefan Parkman leading the Rundfunkchor Berlin from 2007 is only the second of the digital age – and the first was from 1991…

…Equally compelling are such deep cuts as the yearning, melancholy ballad "I Would Do Anything for You" and the foot stomping arcade game-sounding anthem "Houdini." Burning with a hot track intensity somewhere in between early evening rave-up and late-night club afterglow, Torches is a beacon of melodic dance-pop love.

A curious release in the Amon Düül II catalog – originally it appeared only in Britain, and then as an astonishingly cheap budget release – Live in London is, unsurprisingly, exactly what it says it is. Recorded near the end of 1972, it features the full-band lineup performing songs mostly from Yeti and Tanz der Lemminge for a quite enthusiastic crowd (if prog rock bands performed for a bunch of stoned hippies, one would never know that from the cheers throughout). The group pours on the energy in turn; while they aren't simply playing at full blast throughout, the song selection and inspired performances are the mark of a band able to cut it just as well live as in the studio.

The complete West End singles of Loose Joints – one of the funkiest projects to ever come from the legendary Arthur Russell – and a set of tracks that also features a fair bit of work from the funky Ingram Family too! The grooves are definitely some of the most offbeat to ever come from the mostly-disco West End label – and do a great job of crossing the space between the NYC downtown art world and club worlds of the early 80s – thanks to Russell's inventive leadership, and his wicked sounds on electric cello and keyboards too!

The six CDs – seven, if you count the separate, limited-edition bonus disc – housed within the Vault Box (2007) include a trio of otherwise available From the Vault volumes. Each installment houses a (more or less) complete concert, presented in its entirety from very high fidelity multi-track sources. Interestingly, while the first and second sets were issued in fairly rapid succession in the early '90s, it took over a decade-and-a-half before Three from the Vault surfaced.
