DICE: Silvermoon = ~Pink Floyd=Camel=Earthband=Eloy=IQ~ Christian Nove decided in the mid 90s to take the space rock of DICE to the studio after years as a live-only act, and "Silvermoon" is the second harvest of that happy event. DICE music does not take multiple listens to appreciate, but it does take more than one, and it stands up to repeat processing remarkably well given its accessibility. "Silvermoon" provides the blueprint for the subsequent few albums into the new millenium.

War Eternal is the upcoming ninth studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, set to be released on June 9, 2014 by Century Media. It will be the first with Alissa White-Gluz on vocals after former long-time vocalist Angela Gossow stepped down from vocal duties to be the band's business manager,and Nick Cordle on guitars who replaced Christopher Amott in 2012.

Vivica Genaux’s superb recording of arias by Handel and Hasse composed for Faustina Bordoni shows why that 18th-century singer, who had a notorious catfight with her rival Francesca Cuzzoni in front of the Princess of Wales, was so envied. Handel wrote some glorious arias for her, most notably Lusinghe piu care from Alessandro, beautifully sung by Genaux on the opening track. Johann Adolph Hasse didn’t quite have the magic touch of Handel musically, but he married Bordoni and then proceeded to compose at least 15 operatic roles for her – truly justifying their contemporary reputation as the power couple of 18th-century opera.

This is a project very close to the heart of the BBC Philharmonic’s Principal Conductor, something reflected in the passionate performances he creates. BBC Music magazine commented early on that ‘Noseda’s affection for the music is evident throughout’. Even at the time of his appointment, he spoke of his ambition to record the works of the twentieth-century Italian composers, and he has since recorded works by Respighi and Dallapiccola. ‘Gianandrea Noseda understands the music’s lyrical strength and fragile sound-world perfectly; the playing of the BBC Philharmonic is exemplary, too’, wrote The Guardian on the Dallapiccola disc.

This collection includes songs from pretty well the whole of Debussy’s composing life, some of them well-known and acknowledged masterpieces, and some of them much less familiar though no less worthy of inclusion. Most of them, though, date from the 1880s and early 90s. Nuit d'étoiles is in fact Debussy's first published composition, dating from 1880 when he was eighteen. The Trois Ballades de François Villon date from 1910.

Miaskovsky's Second is a work of gloomy caste with a gaunt and protesting character you could cut with a knife. The basic 'colour card' spans the gamut of subdued colours. Rhythmically it tends towards reflection offset by a tramping snappy quick-march of a pattern typical of this composer. The overall effect mixes the Tchaikovsky of Symphonies 5 and Manfred, Rachmaninov's The Crag and Isle of the Dead with a hint of Scriabin's Symphonies 2 and 3. The orchestra is ample of girth: triple woodwind, 4 trumpets, 6 horns, 3 trombones, 2 bass tubas and timps. This is a symphony formed from swarthy, hammer-head clouds, anvil strokes, sheets of rain and electric storms

The Binchois Consort presents a disc which demonstrates the beauty and grandeur of the music performed daily in princely chapels of fifteenth-century England. It illustrates the sheer variety of types of singing, some of it virtuosic in its brilliance. Specifically it offers sacred ceremonial pieces written either for Henry V himself, as King, or to invoke the saintly patron of the House of Lancaster, John of Bridlington, as well as a selection of intricate motets.
