Death Metal | Label : Season of Mist

Cannabis Corpse are more than just a stoned love letter to Cannibal Corpse and much of metal at large. What may seem like a joke band to outsiders and rudimentary listeners is…well, still a really damn amusing band. But one that still deserves to be taken seriously beyond their copious name altercations and love letters that the band drives in ala blunt force. Their latest offering From Wisdom to Baked (a reference to tech-death masters Gorguts album From Wisdom to Hate) is a fuzzy, dizzying thirty-six minute trip of snazzy stoner death metal.

Charles Gounod - complete works for pedal piano and orchestra
    Classical | EAC: FLAC+Cue+Log | 1 Cd, Covers + Booklet | 439 Mb
    Label:Hyperion - Date:2013

The Romantic Piano Concerto series reaches 62 and makes an interesting (although temporary) departure: these four works are for pedal piano (a piano which includes a separate keyboard for the feet, to be played rather in the manner of an organ). Gounod was inspired by the talent of the young and apparently very attractive Lucie Palicot (born circa 1860) whom he heard performing Alkan’s music for pedal piano in 1882. Gounod is far better known for his operatic and liturgical compositions: these works show a different side to this nineteenth-century luminary….

The irony behind the Northern Soul movement that first flourished during the late Sixties and early Seventies is not only that it was a British phenomenon championing American music - like the British Invasion of the Sixties in reverse - but also that the term was coined by a Southerner. While it was venues like the Room at the Top in Wigan, Blackpool's Mecca and the Twisted Wheel in Manchester that nurtured Northern Soul, the first man to coin the term was London record retailer Dave Godin, who went to school in Dartford with the Rolling Stones. He used it to rack records in his Soul City store that appealed to northerners on pilgrimages south, often following their favourite football team. Godin's column in Blues And Soul magazine always ended with the rallying cry: 'Keep the faith - right on now!' This collection is respectfully dedicated to his memory and musical influence.

Sagacity – the English expression which stands for wisdom and cleverness – pun intended – has always been a huge part of the band’s philosophy. SAGA has gotten wiser over the years which shows in their thoughtful, multileveled lyrics. They have gotten smarter with their music arrangements, always leaving the listener amazed with their creativity and inventiveness. Their richness of ideas reflects on the typical but always newly sounding keyboard sounds as well as in its striking melodies. On top of it, it’s Michael Sadler’s distinctive voice which molds the sound of SAGA, and he does so in an extremely good way. “Sagacity” has it all – and more.

'Vers Demain' consists of short pieces that are full of IT: full of theatricality, atmosphere, breathtaking melodies,…, full of Mona Lisa! If someone isn't already familiar to this band and thinks that for example Genesis or Ange are great ones, then go for Mona Lisa! It's a pearl of theatrical prog!…

In 1966, Joni Mitchell was two years away from recording her first album, and she was just another contemporary folksinger looking for her break when she was booked to play the Second Fret, then Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's premiere folk venue. While Mitchell wasn't yet a star, she had already written a handful of great songs that would go on to become classics (including "Both Sides Now," "The Circle Game," "Song to a Seagull," and "Urge for Going") and knew how to deliver them with the skill and confidence of a master performer.

    2L-2006 | rel: 2000 | 500Mb

Released in 1997, this album carried on the good work of "In Search Of Precision" with another helping of Shamall's magic. The title track opens the album and features a quite superb chorus and unlike his earliest works, manages to keep the tension and excitement riding high throughout the piece (even during the quieter sections), which means that the listener's attention is less likely to wander during these sections. "Living World" offers another enjoyable tuneful offering before "Terramagna" sees him trying out a (for him, at least) new style, that of melodic techno/trance. When allied to Shamalls natural penchant for big sounds the effect is, as you can doubtless imagine, little short of overwhelming and that is very much the case here.

1999's The Earth Pressed Flat finds 10,000 Maniacs exploring similar musical terrain as their previous album, Love Among the Ruins, on which singer Mary Ramsey debuted. Ramsey sounds less like a stand-in and more like a frontwoman on The Earth Pressed Flat, which was released on the indie label Bar None. Fittingly, the album sounds more folky and down to earth than some of their previous albums. The album was recorded over the course of four years at the group's home studio, on the road, and in traditional studios; it also incorporates recordings of found sounds and rehearsals for a dreamlike, fluid continuity.

The third album "Sound Source" (2009) continues to showcase dynamic chamber music, mixing classical and rock influences, with a strong musical identity above all. These sixteen concise instrumental tracks reveal impressive technical skills, linked with a huge musical culture.

This is one of pianist John Lewis' most rewarding albums outside of his work with the Modern Jazz Quartet. Three numbers (including a remake of "Two Degrees East, Three Degrees West") showcase his piano in a quartet with guitarist Jim Hall, bassist George Duvivier, and drummer Connie Kay. A 15-and-a-half-minute rendition of "Body and Soul" has one of tenor saxophonist Paul Gonsalves' finest solos, while "Afternoon in Paris" features a diverse cast with trumpeter Herb Pomeroy, Gunther Schuller on French horn, tenor man Benny Golson, baritonist Jimmy Giuffre, and guitarist Jim Hall; altoist Eric Dolphy cuts everyone.
