In its first and second incarnations (1992-1998 and 2003-2006) the UK label Emit Records left us a legacy of around two dozen albums. Many of them are among the most striking, beautiful and forward ambient music of our times, including this album by the duo of Ric Peet and Martyn Watson. Action Painting is a wondrous thing, perhaps a tad less surreal and more direct than its predecessor but on close inspection no less playful or inventive. Some of the beats are more rocking, with "That Time Already" and "Mornin" being virtual rock jams were it not for the added strings, backward effects and zany looped sounds…

In their first release on harmonia mundi France, Sébastien Daucé and his musicians present a sumptuous interpretation of the six-voice motets composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier for the House of Guise. These works, headed by the Miserere, constitute an unexpected parenthesis in the music of the Grand Siècle. The creative genius, the inwardness and the intense fervour of a composer surrounded by his faithful company of singers and instrumentalists speak to us all the more intimately because Charpentier appears here as both copyist (the surviving scores are in his handwriting) and performer – he sang the haute-contre part.

Fritz Reiner was one of the foremost conductors of his time. Crowning his long career in Europe and America was the decade from 1954 to 1963 as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra an illustrious partnership that ranks along such other historical tenures as Karajan's in Berlin, Szell's in Cleveland and Bernstein's in New York.
Luckily for posterity, Reiner's legendary interpretations at the helm of the Chicago Symphony which no less than Igor Stravinsky called "the most precise and flexible orchestra in the world" were captured on record by RCA Victor. Now for the first time ever, they are being issued together in a single Sony Classical box set of 63 re-mastered CDs.

The mysterious tape of early Bob Dylan performances said to have been recorded at the Gaslight Café in Greenwich Village in 1962 began turning up on bootleg albums such as Ode for Barbara Allen, The Gaslight Tapes, Dylan '62, and Barbed Wire Blues in the 1970s…

With this new release the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir under Daniel Reuss pay tribute to Max Reger (1873-1916) and Rudolf Tobias (1873-1918). In his collection of sacred and secular songs, Reger connects them with nature and its rhythm. Rudolf Tobias uses more secular texts for his songs. Two of the most famous ones – “Eks teie tea” and “Otsekui hirv” – are included on this release and offer a stunning introduction to his music.

With this new release, Edward Gardner and the BBC Symphony Orchestra continue their series exploring Polish music for Chandos. This is the second volume in the survey of orchestral works by Karol Szymanowski. The first was well received by critics and the public alike.
