Roy Rogers is one of the most able slide guitarists performing today. His music is great fun – funky country rockabilly blues with a New Orleans twist, with such great bounce and rhythme that you will most difinitely add it to a playlist with Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder and the like. All songs written by Roy Rogers except "Baby, Please Don't Go" (McKinley Morganfield), "Hellhound On My Trail", "Ramblin' Blues" (Robert Johnson), and the traditional "Black Cat Bone".

Discipline is the eigth studio album from King Crimson and it is a comeback album. After a 7 year hiatus (where Robert Fripp concentrated on other projects) since what most people see as their best album called Red, it is a welcome return. Robert Fripp has again drafted Bill Bruford on drums, Adrian Belew is new on vocals and guitar while Tony Levin is new on bass/Chapman stick. The mood of the album is darky playful, filled with a cerebral level of musicianship and wit. Certainly the highlight of this era of King Crimson, and highly recommended for those investigating the band for the first time.

Pohjola is a name with great symbolic power in Finland. It is the main place in the national epic poem Kalevala, and the surname of one of the country’s best known jazz musician families. With Aurora, trumpeter Verneri Pohjola is now creating quite a stir outside his homeland. In Finland his debut won the Emma award as leader, the Finnish Grammy, as “Best Jazz Album of 2009”.

It's much more a classical album rather than jazz. A blend of original compositions and respectful reworkings of timeless classics from Bach, Bartok, Villalobos, Mompov, and Segovia, the collection – which features stellar guest performances by opera star Renee Fleming, violinist Gil Shaham, and cellist Julian Lloyd-Webber – finds Ritenour and Grusin joyously reconnecting with their rich classical roots.

This Concord release is most notable for featuring the obscure but talented violinist Joe Kennedy, who spent the bulk of his career teaching music in the Richmond, VA area. Teamed with pianist Billy Taylor, bassist Victor Gaskin and drummer Keith Copeland, Kennedy is the lead voice on many of the eight straightahead Taylor originals and he plays at the peak of his powers; it is a real pity that he did not record more during his career. ~ Scott Yanow

Masterpieces is a compilation album by Bob Dylan. The 3-LP set was released in Japan and Australia in anticipation of his 1978 tour. Primarily a greatest hits collection spanning Dylan's career up that point, the album features three previously unreleased tracks, including "Rita May", "George Jackson" and a unique (1962) outtake version of "Mixed Up Confusion". It also includes a live performance of "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues" from Dylan's 1966 World Tour, which was first released as the B-side of his "I Want You" single in 1966 and later appeared on Self Portrait. Masterpieces was reissued on CD in 1991 by Sony Music (Cat. No. 4624489), but is no longer in print.

One of THE great jazz quartets of all time: Coltrane (tenor & soprano), McCoy Tyner (piano), the earth-shaking Elvin Jones (drums) and Steve Davis (bass, though 'Trane's band would most often feature Jimmy Garrison and sometimes Reggie Workman), playing a blues-inspired program of originals. This band had an empathy shared by only the best bands in jazz: the Brubeck and Miles Davis groups, the Modern Jazz Quartet–and it shows here, with warmth, confidence, economy and relaxed interplay.
