Super 78-minute anthology of Patton's prime (1963-70) era, unfortunately released only in the U.K., drawn from nine albums. 1963's "Along Came John," and 1966's "Amanda," and the two cuts from his best album, 1965's Let 'Em Roll ("The Turnaround" and "Latona") are particular cookers, but the organ-guitar-horn groove is always solid, and the riffs basic but compelling. This is some of the best soul-jazz ever, usually featuring Grant Green on guitar, though a young James Ulmer takes over on axe for the 1970-era cuts.

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres.

… Once again, just about every song sounds like it should be the set-closing showstopper, but when the results are as enjoyable enough as the didgeridoo-led "This Garden" or "Belaruse," there's not much reason to complain.

Ovnimoon is back again compiling the eighteenth release from Ovnimoon Records in the form of an Ambient Chill Out Compilation titled PAZ or 'Peace'. Following after the down tempo song at the end of 'Transitions In Trance' Ovnimoon carries the listener into a slower groove. The songs on Paz range from groovy lounge ready chill to danceable but relaxing melodic beach vibe styled musical journeys. Each track is infused with ancient tribal energy and touches of psychedelic sounds and feelings, crafted to relax your mind or move your body.

Works for violin and piano are an important part of Cyril Scott’s chamber music. This disc presents three sonatas which span his output. The capricious and ruminative First Violin Sonata ranks among the most convincing and successful of his earlier large-scale compositions. Sonata Melodica is a more relaxed yet equally quixotic work, while the Third Violin Sonata is one of the most inventive from his later years.

Casablancas' career goes back to the mid-'70s when the influence of the Second Viennese School reigned supreme. The abruptness, general avoidance of tonal centers, dense textures, and overall expressionist atmosphere of his piano music all point to the influence of the early music of Schoenberg and his compatriots, but Casablancas mixes various Iberian influences, although not specifically nationalist ones, into a distinctive synthesis. … but perhaps most compelling are the chances Quasthoff takes on some of the slower pieces – specifically Stevie Wonder's "You and I," which is a song heavily influenced by jazz, to be sure, but that also implies soul vocals in some of the explosive expansions of its melodic line. It is here that one realizes most fully that one is hearing a rare vocal virtuoso, and that one enjoys a rare vocal delight to its fullest.
