This release revives the Swiss folk metal band's oldest material, offering the band's 2006 debut album, 'Spirit,' as well as a re-recorded version of 2004 EP 'Ven.' The re-recording of the EP was done under the watchful eye and keen ear of Coroner guitarist Tommy Vetterli.

Vo Slavu Velikim! (Во славу Великим!) is the third full-length album by the Russian folk metal band Arkona. It was released on September 28, 2005 through Sound Age Production. It was re-released in 2008 by Vic Records. A step in the right albeit even more grandiose direction for Arkona, proving to also be a vast improvement on the sometimes lacklustre soundscapes of 'Lepta'.

The gracefully aging Brazilian guitarist takes a trio into a jazz club in Pacific Beach (near San Diego) and delivers a lovely, swinging set of transcriptions and arrangements of music from three continents, bracketed by the music of Jobim ("Outra Vez" to start, and a medley of hits to close). While Almeida was not a technical dazzler at age 74, it doesn't matter; his selection of notes, his feeling for the samba, his selection of material, and his fine-tuned timing with his rhythm section (Bob Magnusson, bass; Jim Plank, drums) make this a hugely enjoyable record.

…As fine as she is in the traditional classical pieces, her voice really blossoms in the sultry Spanish and Latin repertoire, where the music invites her to bring an improvisatory spontaneity to her interpretation. The program is put together with unusual care; the juxtaposition of the songs is often striking and creates an inexorable and satisfying sense of flow. Pianist Justus Zeyen is a responsive and virtuosic partner. Deutsche Grammophon's sound is clear, well balanced, and warmly present. A lovely album.

As a young guitarist growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Charlie Hunter was looking for a way to stand out in the '80s. His primary influences were jazz great Joe Pass and the fluid Tuck Andress (of the guitar/vocal duo Tuck & Patti), both six-string guitarists who were adept at blending bass notes into their standard guitar melodies to make themselves sound like two musicians at once.

Cyril Scott wrote more than two dozen substantial chamber works and although some of his early chamber music has been revived from time to time, with the exception of the Clarinet Quintet this selection receives its premiere recording. The earliest work on the programme is Piano Trio No. 1 of 1920, but the disc significantly celebrates the chamber music composed after the Second World War, exemplifying Scott’s late style.

By the time Bax began composing his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in 1937, he had written six symphonies and numerous works for combinations of solo instruments and orchestra, only two of which, the Phantasy for Viola and Orchestra and the Cello Concerto, are actual concertos. (The pieces for piano and orchestra are more akin to Bax's tone poems than to genuine concertos.) Bax began the concerto in June 1937, finishing the short score in October.
