On their first ZOHO Roots release, the Jay Willie Blues Band lays down 15 vintage Texas blues, rock, and ballad tracks, including eight scorching band originals plus famous early R&B classics and obscure early blues rediscoveries. Inspired and influenced by the incendiary guitar and slide guitar work by Texas blues legend Johnny Winter, Willie fortifies his blues band with Winter’s ex-drummer Bobby T Torello as a special guest. Other special guests include young Dutch R&B singer and YouTube discovery Marlou Zandvliet (“Hollywood”), and harmonica ace Jason Ricci. In typical blues funkiness and an ironic but provocative sideswipe at political correctness, some of the album’s songs celebrate the guilty pleasures of “Chain Smokin’” and “Champagne and Reefer” - the latter a powerful Muddy Waters tune.

Iron Maiden fans rejoice! The band’s much sought after ‘Maiden England ’88' live set will finally make its way to DVD on March 25.
Filmed during the band’s ‘Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son’ tour, the concert film has been a missing piece of the Iron Maiden catalog for a long time. As Maiden manager Ron Smallwood explains, “We’ve been busy upgrading this concert footage for a long time, with our in-house film producer and director Andy Matthews working tirelessly to weave his magic yet again!”
The film was directed and edited by bassist Steve Harris, and the DVD will also include a brand new 5.1 surround mix by producer Kevin Shirley. The band have been revisiting this era on their recent ‘Maiden England World Tour,’ playing a similar set list and utilizing various staging elements from the 1988 tour.

The artful relationship between Les Six and their mentors formed an important cornerstone of the inter-war avant garde.

    Genre: Fusion, Jazz-Funk

In 1975, George Duke was dabbling in R&B vocals. But instrumental jazz-fusion was still his primary focus, and he had yet to be played extensively on any of the genres' stations. When The Aura Will Prevail came out that year, no one bought the LP for its occasional R&B vocal – the main attraction was Duke's keyboard playing. "Fools" is a melancholy soul ballad that finds him singing lead and predicts what was to come on R&B-oriented releases like Don't Let Go (1978) and Master of the Game (1979), but it isn't typical of the album on the whole. Without question, The Aura Will Prevail is among this artist's finest fusion-oriented albums.

On his eighth Criss Cross leader date, Wycliffe Gordon (awarded 2012 Trombonist of the Year by both the Down Beat Critics Poll and the Jazz Journalists' Association) distills his exhaustive knowledge of the oeuvre of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn on a well crafted, ten-piece program spanning a timeline from 1927 (Creole Love Call) to 1967 (The Intimacy Of The Blues). Throughout the proceedings, which explore a broad array of flavors, Gordon - spurred by a killer rhythm section of pianist Aaron Diehl, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, and drummer Alvin Atkinson - plays with characteristic effervescence and tonal creativity, matched by Adrian Cunningham on saxophones and woodwinds and, on several selections, the soulful violin virtuoso Zach Brock and vocalist Dee Daniels.

Released by Charisma Records in 1972, the only album of this still highly underrated, British progressive band should appeal to fans of classic, heavy and quite melodic rock based on catchy, but intense guitars, ever-changing moods & rhythms and complex vocal parts…

One of Wakeman's more ridiculous efforts, this is the soundtrack for a re-release of the 1925 film version of Phantom of the Opera. Keyboard master John Medeski thrives on the unpredictable, a trait that has kept his work with the trailblazing trio Medeski Martin & Wood (MMW) fresh and surprising for more than twenty years. With A Different Time, his first solo piano project, Medeski once again takes his sound in a completely unexpected direction. A Different Time is a far more introspective, meditative collection than fans of MMW's lively, groove-driven music might expect. Consisting mainly of his own compositions and improvisations, A Different Time presents a different side of Medeski's prodigious artistry. "I had a more eclectic record in mind," says Medeski. "I wanted to put out something that would be more representative of what my live solo concerts are like. The whole point is to get lost in the music."

Beautiful instrumental progressive rock music from Hungary! The 2 CD set contains unreleased Hungarian Radio and live sessions recorded during the 1970's.
