The second edition of the No Music Festival was held in London, Ontario (home of the Nihilist Spasm Band), from April 8 to 10, 1999. The three-day noise extravaganza was recorded and the label Entartete Kunst Recordings released a five-CD document of the event. That's over six hours of material, accompanied by a 16-page booklet filled with photos and comments from the organizers and some of the participating players, which included that year Ken Vandermark, Fred Van Hove, Borbetomagus, Alan Licht, Michael Snow, Jim O'Rourke, and many more, along with the Nihilist Spasm Band (Bill Exley, Art Pratten, John Boyle, John Clement, Hugh McIntyre, and Murray Favro), of course.

German thrashers ACCUSER are streaming the title track of their new album, Diabolic, due out April 12th via Red Shift Music/HART. Diabolic was recorded and produced by Martin Buchwalter at Gernhart Studio.According to a press release, "Accuser is more focused and punchy than ever and Diabolic is brimming with riffs and solos, aggressive shouting and catchy choruses. From the straight opener 'Apocalyptic Decay' across the 'Beyond The Blackness' with its hit-chorus up to the final long track 'World Wide Violence', the band displays the fireworks in terms of thrash metal, rife with aggression and playfulness alike. Ultra-precise rhythms and an obvious sense for melodies lay the foundations for Frank Thoms' brutal vocals. He's in top form here, pissed off like a young Max Cavalera with lyrics typical for this band, pointing at social injustice and processing personal conflicts. Fans of Arise-period SEPULTURA should risk an ear."

Jazz and film noir are perfect bedfellows, as evidenced by the soundtrack of Louis Malle's Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold). This dark and seductive tale is wonderfully accentuated by the late-'50s cool or bop music of Miles Davis, played with French jazzmen – bassist Pierre Michelot, pianist René Urtreger, and tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen – and American expatriate drummer Kenny Clarke. These complete recordings, including multiple alternate takes, evoke the sensual nature of a mysterious chanteuse and the contrasting scurrying rat race lifestyle of the times, when the popularity of the automobile, cigarettes, and the late-night bar scene were central figures.

By 1975, Rod Stewart's solo career had blossomed so well that it was inevitable that he would depart Faces for greener pastures to build on his personal success. As the band grew apart and the inevitable apparent, the group toured the world in 1975 on their Farewell Tour. This disc captures a key moment of rock history When the British Blues Rock scene lost it's final superstar band. The onstage chemistry of these musicians was simply a magical good time for all and provided some of the most memorable moments in rock history. Includes a special guest appearance by Ron Wood's future bandmate Keith Richards!

For over a decade Walla Walla’s Rob Barrett and his Coyote Kings have been a driving force in the Eastern Washington blues scene and now are the proud hosts of the 2nd Walla Walla Guitar Festival. In 2010 the Kings teamed up with power house vocalist Michelle “Mush” Morgan, releasing the critically acclaimed album Move, in 2011. 2013 album from the American singer/songwriter. The album, which is a collection of Bobby Charles songs, is a musical collaboration with the legendary Dr. John. Everybody knows Bobby Charles through his songs. Charles wrote such instantly recognizable hits as 'See You Later Alligator,' 'Walking to New Orleans' and 'But I Do,' but the reclusive singer/songwriter, who passed away in 2010, is relatively unknown for his own recordings. This album puts the spotlight back on the songs and the man who wrote them.

Scotty Bratcher began playing guitar at an age that it became second nature to him, he was two. By this time, Stevie Ray Vaughan had impressed the world. When the 1989 release of his Austin City Limits performance was aired, Scotty was spellbound in front of the television. Eventually Scotty's father had acquired a few electric guitars that he let Scotty play as long as he was careful with them.
When he was eleven, Scotty was going to open mike nights at clubs in the greater Cincinnati area. This was where he began getting on-stage experience and eventually found band members to support him. Over the next several years, Scotty sat in with various bands and had the opportunity to open for hero Lonnie Mack…

Faced with flagging sales on their first post-Fish release Season's End, progressive rockers Marillion paired themselves with pop producer Christopher Neil for 1991's Holidays in Eden. It wasn't exactly a move that paid either commercial or artistic dividends, as the results are so diluted and bland that one can only hope this was a desperate attempt to appease their label. There were several singles that charted in the U.K., but they could have been performed by anyone or, worse, in the case of the ringing guitars on "Cover My Eyes," it sounds as though they want to reinvent themselves as U2. It's a record that will surely disappoint fans of their more progressive work and, lacking a distinctive personality, hardly elicit excitement from newcomers.

When Procol Harum's ninth studio album, Something Magic, was released in March 1977, it sold poorly and was largely dismissed, with the group breaking up at the end of the promotional tour for it. With this reissue more than 30 years later, annotator Roland Clare argues it is "in need of outright reappraisal." He doesn't actually make that case, but he does explain the circumstances that led to the debacle. After its previous album, Procol's Ninth, produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Procol Harum might have been expected to go back to a more conventional approach; instead, the group hired the hot studio of the day, Criteria in Miami, and its hot resident producers, Ron and Howie Albert. When the band arrived in Florida and played the songs intended for the album, the Albert brothers threw half of them out.

A casual listen might suggest that Floratone is a new Bill Frisell project (and that would be mostly correct), except every indication is that this is a fully collaborative project between Frisell, drummer Matt Chamberlain, and Tucker Martine and Lee Townsend. Composition credits are all shared and they all appear on the front cover. Why is that notable? Because while Frisell and Chamberlain are both credited with "loops" along with their respective instruments, Martine and Townsend receive only "production" credits – no instruments. That's because on Floratone, the pure elements of sound and space are given as much attention as the music itself.

…The mix used here seems to more or less split the difference, but the crucial key is and was always Cooke's vocals, and while he was a marvelously smooth, versatile, and urbane singer on his official pop recordings, here he explodes into one of the finest sets of raw secular gospel ever captured on tape. It is essential listening in any version.
