The Low Highway features his live band and was co-produced by Earle and Ray Kennedy (whose production partnership known as the "Twangtrust" was behind Lucinda Williams' Car Wheels On A Gravel Road). Between the opening title track and the reflective closing of "Remember Me," The Low Highway is very much Steve Earle's road record, and one that has seen many miles.

Hailing from The Netherlands, The Travoltas were a Rock band, combining the energy and power of punkrock with the melodies and harmonies of classic popbands like the Beach Boys and the Byrds. The band is often reffered to as "the Beach Boys of Punk Rock" or "a cross between the Ramones, the Beach Boys and Weezer". Their trademark sound is in fact a combination of afore mentioned bands and 80's powerpop (the Cars, Blondie) adding influences ranging from surf music to new wave. Here's the Japan only compilation - 2 full length albums on 1 CD - reissue of Travoltas' 2002s "Endless Summer" & 2003s "Travoltas Party", so that you can use words like overwhelming, brilliant, awesome, astonishing, etc. But better adding just HITS,HITS,HITS - is all about that.

Cochois (on the first two albums just as JFC) and created a unique niche suited in the wide field of the genre Ambient/Electronic for his selection. His former releases - remixes for Enigma or Ex-Kraftwerk producer Wolfgang Flür (Yamo) amongst others - stand for new devised cliches and love for the music that lives in the details. 15 songs of an artist who walks his own ways with emotional denseness and expertly flair as regards sound and rhythm.

Eleven official live albums in one discography is an awful lot, but Dave Matthews manages to throw a few surprises in on 2010’s Live in New York City. A double-album capturing their second night at their July 2010 stint at Citi Field, this finds DMB downplaying their big hits – the biggest here is the ballad “Crash into Me” – in favor of moody selections from deep in his catalog, including songs from Matthews’ 2003 solo album Some Devil. This lends the performance a meditative quality unusual for such a large setting – even the extended numbers (five songs clock in over ten minutes, two of them over 15) don’t dig deep so much as float, the improvisations relying on texture instead of groove. It’s a subtle difference, one that matters only to the dedicated, but it does mean that Live in New York City winds up with a different flavor than its ten predecessors. (Allmusic)

As one of the most popular pop groups of the 1970s, brother-and-sister duo the Carpenters (Richard and Karen Carpenter) enjoyed a string of era-defining hits, among them "We've Only Just Begun" and "Close to You." In time, however, the demands of fame and image exacted a tragic cost as both siblings allegedly struggled with drug addiction, and Karen developed the anorexia nervosa that eventually claimed her life in February 1983.

    MP3 320 kbps CBR | 54:24 min | 121 MB
Genre: Jazz | Label: UMC (Universal Music Catalogue)

"Ever After" is neither a record of covers in the manner of 'Wonderland' (his re-reading of Stevie Wonder with a jazz seal), nor a record centred on vocals like the trumpeter's previous collaboration with Brazilian singer Milton Nascimento. In choosing Donny Hathaway as the tutelary figure for his new opus, Belmondo wanted to do more than pay tribute to one of his favourite singers; here he positions himself as a "total" musician, i.e. a man able to compose, write, arrange and perform songs in a broad swirl of influences, reject any differentiation between genres.

Colin Stetson established himself as an intensely original solo composer and performer in 2011 with the release of the widely acclaimed New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges. Judges ended up on countless year-end lists and emphatically proved that Stetson's approach to solo saxophone transcends niche or genre; a unique and emotionally resonant instrumental music with influences as wide-ranging as jazz, metal, pop, soul, drone, industrial, minimalism, electro-acoustic and modern contemporary.

Excellent guitar harmonies and the classic clean vocals of Stefan Berglund are the outstanding trademarks of this highly talented outfit.

Classic performances by Ella Fitzgerald, the queen of the jazz/soul singers backed up by one of the biggest of the big band leaders, Count Basie, and his illustrious orchestra.
"The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald was arguably the finest female jazz singer of all time (although some may vote for Sarah Vaughan or Billie Holiday). Blessed with a beautiful voice and a wide range, Fitzgerald could outswing anyone, was a brilliant scat singer, and had near-perfect elocution; one could always understand the words she sang. The one fault was that, since she always sounded so happy to be singing, Fitzgerald did not always dig below the surface of the lyrics she interpreted and she even made a downbeat song such as "Love for Sale" sound joyous.

Doug MacLeod's dark singing and sparse guitar playing are a throwback to the country-blues artists of the 1930s, although his lyrics have more modern sensibilities. Much of this superior CD is haunting and mildly disturbing, giving one the feeling that there is a great deal beneath the surface….

Doug MacLeod displays several sides of his artistry on this AudioQuest CD. His music ranges from solo folk numbers in the idiom of Leadbelly (but covering different subjects) to country blues with a trio, a few romps with the wailing harmonica of Carey Bell and two collaborations with the country fiddle of Heather Hardy. MacLeod's appealing voice is easy to understand, his lyrics are thoughtful and fresh (even when covering universal subjects) and his melodic guitar playing is versatile. MacLeod's well-conceived set should appeal to collectors of acoustic blues and folk music.–by Scott Yanow
