Robby Valentine is the first self-titled album by Robby Valentine, released through Polydor Records. Some great songs all over this 13 track opus (15 if you have the Jap copy). One could say this is an extension of his work with Zinatra ('The Great Escape'), though perhaps more pomp/AOR than hard rock oriented. For instance, 'Over And Over Again' (featuring Mike Landau on lead guitar) went to No. 5 in Holland. Other supreme moments include the Queen like bombast of 'The Magic Breeze', and the AOR delights of 'Angel', and 'I'm Searchin'. Listen too for the uptempo melodic rockers 'Love Takes Me Higher' and 'The Gift Of Life'. But really there a plenty of other moments to get wrapped up in!

In their survey of the trio sonata, London Baroque has already visited France, England and Germany and now arrives at the birthplace of the genre – Italy in the 17th Century. In this period, instrumental music was becoming important in its own right, and soon the violin was recognized as the ideal vehicle for this new style.

Emboldened by her experience of playing the 6 Sets of Lessons by Richard Jones, already released on Glossa, and chancing upon another book of music which included violin sonatas by Jones, Mitzi Meyerson resolved to champion further this forgotten musical figure from the first half of the 18th century in England, in a manner comparable to her earlier defence of Muffat and Balbastre.

Free jazz has not produced many notable guitarists. Experimental musicians drawn to the guitar have had few jazz role models; consequently, they've typically looked to rock-based players for inspiration. James "Blood" Ulmer is one of the few exceptions an outside guitarist who has forged a style based largely on the traditions of African-American vernacular music. Ulmer is an adherent of saxophonist/composer Ornette Coleman's vaguely defined Harmolodic theory, which essentially subverts jazz's harmonic component in favor of freely improvised, non-tonal, or quasi-modal counterpoint.

Talk about understatement – there's Stephen Stills on the cover, acoustic guitar in hand, promising a personal singer/songwriter-type statement. And there is some of that – even a lot of that personal music-making – on Stephen Stills, but it's all couched in astonishingly bold musical terms. Stephen Stills is top-heavy with 1970 sensibilities, to be sure, from the dedication to the memory of Jimi Hendrix to the now piggish-seeming message of "Love the One You're With." Yet, listening to this album three decades on, it's still a jaw-dropping experience, the musical equal to Crosby, Stills & Nash or Déjà Vu, and only a shade less important than either of them.

    U.S.A. | Mp3 320 Kbps | 88 MB
    Psychedelic / Southern Rock

Dead Confederate is an American alternative rock band formed in Augusta, Georgia and based in Athens, Georgia. The band's sound has been described as a mix of alternative country, psychedelic rock and grunge, and has drawn comparisons to Nirvana and My Morning Jacket. The alternative rock bands that ruined music in the 1990s, which are still influential for all the new fans they drug back underground, had a habit of filling their major label debuts with one or two insanely catchy but empty songs wrapped in unlistenable fluff. With “In the Marrow,” it’s like Dead Confederate went back two decades and wiped all that grunge, all the post-punk, away, leaving just the band’s influences, Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr., as an example.Dead Confederate’s latest makes it feel like the late ’90s never happened, that punk never broke, that Cobain never killed himself. They hadn’t technically gone anywhere, but “In the Marrow” makes a writer throw up his hands and say, “Thank God, they’re back.”

Bassist Harvie S' association with piano legend Kenny Barron dates back at least to 1986 when they first recorded a series of duets together with spare time left from another recording session. Witchcraft is cut from the same cloth as their previous album, with S and Barron coaxing quite a variety of textures and color from the two-instrument format, exploring all the tonal possibilities available to them. With its varied set list of standards and jazz tunes, enjoy an hour of some fine and intimate music making with Kenny Barron and Harvie S.
