One more album from the works of the amazing jazz quintet consisting of Max Roach (drums), Clifford Brown or Brownie (trumpet), Richie Powell (piano), Harold Land (tenor saxophone) and George Morrow (bass). The recordings of this quintet are rare and valuable, since it had a short "life" that ended tragically at 1956, with the loss of Clifford Brown and Richie Powell, in a car accident. Enjoy a real gem for every quality jazz collector.

    Label: Yep Roc Records | Tracks: 24 | Rls.date: 2013-04-16

Kim Richey's Yep Roc debut album is a smart, sensual understatement that may be one of her best. The dozen songs themselves show that Richey's still dreaming up fetching melodies that arc and bend in unexpected ways, and still discovering fresh angles from which to articulate matters of the heart. The array of top-tier guests include Trisha Yearwood, Jason Isbell, Wilco's Pat Sansone, My Morning Jacket's Carl Broemel, and Will Kimbrough.

    Death Metal

Germanys Death Metal Warmachine Purgatory is back with a killer new album: "Deathkvlt - grand old arts". A logical progression from "Necromantaeon", something brutal and atmospheric, but still skull-splitting Old School Death Metal without any compromises. A dirty nasty chunk blasphemous death metal with top sound with some cool horror samples! Who would not know the band's sound: it considered as a combination of Belphegor, Vomitory, Vader and Deicide.

Let’s Face The Music And Dance features a selection of songs that are near and dear to Willie and are performed with his band “The Family”–the band Willie started with his sister Bobbie Nelson in 1973 that has been his touring and recording family for forty years. Like the man himself, this collection is not easily defined as a particular genre or style. It includes American standards and country classics, Irving Berlin and Carl Perkins, Django Reinhart as well as Willie-penned originals. Yet the result is a beautiful, cohesive set with songs about love and reflection in Willie’s inimitable style.

A post-bop gem recorded by Max Roach in 1968 under Atlantic label. Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars and the review by Alex Henderson calls it "One of the finest post-bop dates Roach recorded during that decade". The superb drummer leads a cohesive modal quintet of top musicians (alto sax, trumpet, piano and bass). You will find a nice booklet with original liner notes by Ed Williams. Not much need to be said about one of the most beautiful post-bop albums recorded. Enjoy.

This is the third disc from Satko Fujii's Ma-Do quartet which includes the same personnel as the previous discs and sadly it will be the last of this version of the quartet since bassist Norikatsu Koreyasu has since passed away. This disc starts with an intense bowed bass solo/intro which seems like a perfect way to remember our fallen hero. Ms. Fujii has a way of bringing out the best in her band-mates by writing piece which push them into challenging waters where they will either sink or swim upstream. One of Ms. Fujii's strengths is the way she often has two musicians playing one part with the other two playing another interconnected part.

The album titled Life Forum presents music that sets the stage for this gathering and the artistry of the musicians becomes the discussion that takes place. The open-mindedness of the music is a metaphor to the freedom of thought that one should bring to life's forum.

The Story Of Rock And Roll would not be complete without a heavy dose of Jerry Lee Lewis. Is there an early rock & roller who has a crazier reputation than the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis? His exploits as a piano-thumping, egocentric wild man with an unquenchable thirst for living have become the fodder for numerous biographies, film documentaries, and a full-length Hollywood movie. Certainly few other artists came to the party with more ego and talent than he and lived to tell the tale. And certainly even fewer could successfully channel that energy into their music and prosper doing it as well as Jerry Lee.

Isle of Wight Festival 1970: Recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 and released on CD in 1997. At this concert ELP played Pictures at an Exhibition.
Live at the Royal Albert Hall: Known for their on-stage energy and full-force musical prowess, Live at the Royal Albert Hall is the farthest from disappointment a live album can get. Each member of ELP exhibits his individual talents on this astonishing audio spectacle that doesn't let up at any point. Spearheading the 11 songs on the album that runs almost 70 minutes is keyboardist Keith Emerson, whose earsplitting synthesizer rumbles and squeals with devastating vigor.

Gallagher's fourth and final studio set for Chrysalis finds the Irish blues-rocker in prime form. Arriving only a year after Photo-Finish, when he spent much of his time on the road, it's remarkable that Gallagher could continue to churn out the hook-heavy high-quality tunes he wrote for this album. Playing larger arenas toughened his songs and attack, almost all of which here are high-octane sweaty rockers. While that makes for some thrilling, intense music, the nonstop vibrant energy rush is never balanced out with a ballad or even the rootsy, swampy blues that Gallagher always performed with such authority.

The Mississippi Delta is the source of America's deep and pervasive blues tradition. At a time when that tradition appeared in danger of disappearing, many of its most elemental practitioners reappeared to remind us of the bruising force of this music's headwaters. They were living legends who demonstrated strong bonds with legends passed. Eddie 'Son' House had been associated with Charley Patton and was a mentor both to Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. Johnny Shines had traveled with Johnson and absorbed his music before joining the Delta's émigrés to Chicago.
