Musically, the CD "has much more variety than the previous two, combining influences from CULT OF LUNA all the way to SIGUR ROS

Delivering their sophomore release through Deathbound Records, today we have Denmark’s By The Patient and their brutal album “Premonitions”. With a very unique mixture of traditional European Death Metal and some melodic elements, this band does a great job in keeping things interesting and the listener engaged until the last second of this release. Through nine songs we have a journey of incisive guitar work, blasting drumming and very aggressive vocals, exactly what the doctor ordered for a Tuesday night of drinking.

In 1950, when he was only 23 years, Stan Getz, which had been leading his own jazz quartet, had to attend a contract in the living Bop City of New York for which expanded its group incorporating guitarist Jimmy Raney, who was recognized as one of the most influential and talented in jazz guitar. The original concept of Raney in the melodic lines and tasteful modern harmony provided Getz the basis for developing and improving their own performance. The music created both for the next two years, while they worked together, made a great impression in the world of jazz. The compilation of these recordings of the time is an excellent example of the high level reached both artists night after night in their performances.

The title of this concert between jazz guitarists Mark Whitfield and J.K. is Soul Conversations. Problem is, they forgot to bring the soul and it's a pretty redundant discussion after about five minutes. Sure, there are fans of this type of self-absorbed, virtuoso jazz-guitar playing out there, but most people hear this type of music playing from airport bathrooms. You know the stuff: it's the light, airy "smooth jazz" that Steely Dan tried to pass off as fusion. The chops displayed are impressive, and obviously Whitfield and J.K. figured their contrasting styles would open up musical worlds, but it never happens. Whitfield, a respected guitarist who's played with the Marsalis brothers and claims influence from George Benson, is the laid-back picker, bringing a heavy dose of wah-wah, while J.K. does his best Steve Vai imitation, ripping and blasting through solos in the same range whatever the number. – Dave McCoy

Jealousy is more good old heavy metal from X-Japan, then named X. The band is credited with inventing the visual kei style, but you can't really hear that shake-and-stir mixture of U2 arena sound, goth rock, and mid-career Helloween here – regardless of the band's attire and haircuts, sonically it's a conventional '80s metal record (never mind that it originally came out in 1991). That said, it's a nice document of pre-grunge heavy music, sporting thin production, twin guitars, and glam rock aplomb, but having more to it than just being a Winger imitation.

Quiet Riot's producer gives Vanilla Fudge – whom producer Shadow Morton discovered in the late '60s – a "bang your head" onslaught of big hair drums, compressed guitar, and tired homogenization. The fun psychedelic distortion of Vinny Martell is totally stripped away – he is relegated to rhythm guitar on one song and backing vocals on three. That is a total travesty. It is one thing to have the leader of Beck, Bogert & Appice, one Jeff Beck, funk up "My World Is Empty," even under the disguise of J. Toad (shades of George Harrison in his L'Angelo Mysterioso garb), but this version of the Supremes is so far removed from what made Vanilla Fudge so special that, really, it should be included as a bonus track on a reissue of the 1973 Epic debut Beck, Bogert & Appice.

It's perhaps a little surprising that Cliff Richard never really had the same impact in the music scene on this side of the pond that he did in his native England. Richard has set untold records (no pun intended) in the British music industry, selling hundreds of millions of records and by some accounts becoming the biggest selling male artist in British history…

Featured collaborations include Algerian Cheb Mami and Jamaica's Ziggy Marley, internationally known Jamaican artists Toots and the Maytals alongside country legend Willie Nelson, and many more. One of Putumayo's goals has been to introduce people to other cultures as a way of helping to overcome prejudice and bring people of different backgrounds together. All of these artists reach beyond their national borders for cultural expression and musical inspiration. Enjoy a real gem from Putumayo.
