Beyond These Voices is the Nick Malcolm Quartet’s second CD release in three years. Trumpeter Malcolm has recruited some of the key figures of a new generation of UK musicians working across a shifting, frequently invisible, boundary of composed and improvised music. Seven of the nine tracks are Malcolm compositions, the others are improvised pieces (one by Malcolm and bassist Olie Brice, one by pianist Alexander Hawkins and drummer Mark Whitlam).
Magnificat delivers once again; ‘Where late the sweet birds sang’ is a gorgeous contrapuntal choral collection of works by three of the leading Elizabethan composers, featuring some of the repertoire’s best singers. Since the time of Byrd Westminster and Winchester Cathedrals have been renowned as two of England’s finest choral cathedrals. The choristers on this recording, from Westminster and Winchester, maintain that lineage, their voices blending seamlessly and naturally.
EMI Classics releases an exciting new recording of Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances and The Bells. These two Rachmaninov masterpieces, performed by one of the world’s most renowned orchestras under their celebrated principal conductor Sir Simon Rattle. This is a rare chance to hear Sir Simon’s interpretations of these great works. Towards the end of his life, the composer himself said of The Bells “I worked on this composition with feverish ardour; and it remains of all my works the one I love the most”. Of the Symphonic Dances, written shortly before his death, he said “I don’t know how it happened, it must have been my last spark”.
"South Wind" is a debut album of Uchu (Pavel Burylichev) - electronic producer and DJ from Moscow. These 8 chill-out tracks is a result of diligent work with sound, which came from careful self-education, curiosity and playing on gigs in Russia, India and Nepal. Uchu means "cosmos" in Japanese and Pavel’s music sounds like outer space - very deep, enigmatic and harmonious. Let this music play and you will feel that south wind blows from cold Russia too. You will be surrounded with warm swirling breeze of intelligent melodies, sophisticated bass-lines and fluid grooves…
