It’s Geoff Thorpe’s story of power and pain. The quest to change peoples lives with the power of metal music and the fascination of his band in 2011. The older they get, the more wicked Vicious Rumors sound. They’ve definitely not slowed down, quite the opposite, they have even more drive. Vicious Rumour’s latest album Razorback Killers features ten breathtaking new songs which transport the traditional Vicious Rumors sound perfectly into the present. To cut a long story short: this band has never sounded more dynamic than on Razorback Killers.
The Swiss death band celebrates 10 years of existence releasing their 4th album and the second with their new record company. With a name like that you would probably think that this band plays slow, atmospheric stuff and music that can be used in funerals. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong! REQUIEM deliver raw metal played somewhere in the borders between death in its primitive form setting foot in the territory of fast black.
These performances come from a vintage TV broadcast and its technical image quality is not perfect. The group on this outstanding DVD was probably the second greatest Miles Davis Quintet ever assembled, the first being the unit with John Coltrane, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. However, their filmed output is limited to merely four performances: three tunes from a Steve Allen show taped on September 10 and 11, 1964, the present Milan concert and the two European concerts already documented on our companion volume "European Tour 1967" (IJ518). When this Milan concert was recorded, the band had just recently formed.
The USSR Symphony Orchestra owes its success largely to Evgeni Svetlanov, its artistic director, Lenin prize winner, USSR People's Artist, Hero of Socialist Labour — a gifted versatile musician, talented conductor, composer and pianist. For several years Svetlanov had a position with the All-Union Radio Orchestra, later taking over the USSR Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. With Russian classics in the focus of his attention (his repertoire includes all of Russian music) Svetlanov constantly tackles works of different styles. Evgeni Svetlanov's name is well known all over the world.
A collection of good old Texas electric blues tracks mostly recorded by Johnny Copeland in the early '60s through the mid-'70s, between his first flush of youth and his Rounder Records-sponsored artistic renaissance, Working Man Blues is a portrait of an undeniably talented electric guitarist and singer floundering a bit in terms of career direction………..
Kenny "Blue" Ray featuring Jackie Payne Soulful Blues Tone King This is one of the best electric Blues record of the year. No kidding. Kenny "Blue" Ray, underrated Texan guitarist, and soul-blues singer Jackie Payne are a dangerous couple. Blue Ray, an Albert Collins' disciple, has been trading licks with virtually everybody around and in "Soulful Blues" ……
