    Jazz / Avant-Garde Jazz / Experimental / Saxophone

The Evan Parker Electro-Acoustic Ensemble has been an ever-changing entity in both personnel and musical direction. Originally structured as a free jazz unit whose players were given "electronic shadows," this model has given way to something entirely other in composition and execution. The ensemble now numbers nine members. Only five of these players – Parker (saxophones, tapes, samples), Philipp Wachsmann (violin, electronics), Augusti Fernandez (piano, prepared piano), Barry Guy (double bass), and Paul Lytton (percussion, electronics) – are considered "free jazz" players in anything resembling proper usage. Six members of the ensemble play electronics (the others are Joel Ryan, Walter Prati, Marco Vecchio, and Lawrence Casserley).

The works of Peter Michael Hamel have been associated with the Minimalist style of composition, and in the late 1970s with the New Simplicity movement. He ranks as one of the better known and successful German composers of his generation. He has drawn inspiration from Asian philosophies and from encounters with the works of Jean Gebser and C. G. Jung in order to present music that seeks to make itself accessible to the listener through meditation and self-exploration.

Dmitry Borisovich Kabalevsky was a prolific composer of piano music and chamber music; many of his piano works have been performed by the likes of Vladimir Horowitz. He is probably best known in the West for the "Comedians Galop" from The Comedians Suite, Op. 26. In general, Kabalevsky was not as adventurous as his contemporaries in terms of harmony and preferred a more conventional diatonicism, interlaced with chromaticism and major-minor interplay.

One of the greatest soul records of all time and an album that we'd never part with! Gloria Scott only ever recorded this one full LP but that's more than enough, as the whole thing's a masterpiece produced by Barry White with the best of his 70s approach, and featuring songs written by lesser known White protege, Tom Brock! Nearly every single cut's a classic a mixture of deep soul, mellow soul, and slight traces of funk all gliding effortlessly together with White's stone cold production, and Gloria's instantly captivating vocals.

    Blackguard - Firefight (2011)
    Mp3 | 230 VBR | 77 MB | Canada
    Folk/Melodic Death Metal

Canada’s Blackguard are often touted as being one of North America’s answers to folk metal, and really, if this is the only thing we have to offer to the scene (which is just not true), than we can hardly call ourselves afficionados, because Blackguard is about as folk related as Children of Bodom. Just because a band has an epic feel, does not make them folk, viking, whatever, in fact, Firefight is merely a classic speed metal album, bordering on power metal, with harsh vocals and some melodic death influence. That’s it folks, no more, no less.

    Thrash Metal

Omission is a thrash band from Spain that released their album ‘Thrash Metal Is Violence’ in 2009 by themselves and were picked up by Xtreem Music based on that album. Compared to the debut the production on ‘Merciless Jaws From Hell’ is much better and fans of this type of extreme thrash metal should appeal to this album.

This Capri CD was the debut of the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra, a notable L.A.-based big band co-led by bassist John Clayton, altoist Jeff Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton. The 18-piece group has many top soloists, most notably the three co-leaders.However, it is the arrangements of John Clayton that give the orchestra its own sound. Highly recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
