This very attractive five-CD set does an excellent job of summing up the rather productive career of pianist-keyboardist Chick Corea. The first two discs have highlights from the 1964-1982 period including a few sideman appearances, a previously unissued version of "Windows" played with Stan Getz, the original version of "Spain," four pieces from the Return to Forever days, and numbers from his freelance projects of the late '70s (highlighted by the exciting "Central Park"). The third disc concentrates on Corea's GRP projects (1986-1994), particularly his Elektric and Akoustic Bands (two selections were previously unissued), while the fourth CD is quite a grab-bag that includes collaborations with Herbie Hancock (a version of "Liza" that progresses from stride to free), Gayle Moran, John McLaughlin, Paco DeLucia, Gary Burton, Bobby McFerrin, and Miles Davis (a new duet version of "I Fall in Love So Easily" from 1969).
Originally broadcast on CBS April 11, 1976, under the title The Original Rompin' Stompin' Hot and Heavy, Cool and Groove All-Star Jazz Show, this concert ran as part of its parent network's Lively Arts for Young People series. As staged at the Ed Sullivan Theater and directed by Gary Keys, it features performances by a who's-who of jazz legends who were still active at the time, including Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz.
An amazing piece of work – a massive eight-disc boxed set that contains every one of Fats Domino's 1949-1962 Imperial waxings. That's a tremendous load of one artist, but the legacy of Domino and his partner Dave Bartholomew is so consistently innovative and infectious that it never grows tiresome for a second. From the clarion call of "The Fat Man," Domino's 1949 debut, to the storming "Dance with Mr. Domino" in 1962, he typified everything charming about Crescent City R&B, his Creole patois and boogie-based piano a non-threatening vehicle for the rise of rock & roll. A thick, photo-filled book accompanies the disc, and there's an exhaustive discography that makes sense of Domino's many visits to Cosimo Matassa's studios. If you care about Fats Domino, this is the package for you!
The coming Apocalypse - Prepare for Survival.2012 will be the year of KADAVRIK and it will be the year of the APOCALYPSE. Under the title N.O.A.H., German Melodic Death Metal band KADAVRIK will release their 3rd album internationally on Feb. 18th with an outlook into a very dark future indeed.Consequently singer Niklas Preach describes the record as a "Soundcollage for a dystopian endtime". A novelty for the band is the inclusion of a concept part, containing 4 German language songs. Singer Preach feels that the "German language here changes the mood dramatically - everything sounds colder and edgier, contributing to the atmosphere of unease and doom."
Perverse vocals and sorrowful atmospheres in the old Mayhem style, are the frame for a violent Black Metal with shades of modern Metal, enriched by the assault of the Death Metal as only Satyricon, Dark Funeral and Marduk have been able to performing during the last years. It's a devastating work and will hit you like a merciless storm that will suddenly come on your heads!
If, as Howard Hawks said, a good movie consists of three great scenes and no bad ones, it could be extrapolated that a good record contains three great songs and no bad ones – in that case, Weezer is a record with at least six or seven great songs and no bad ones. That makes for a great record, but more than that, it's a great record emblematic of its time, standing as one of the defining albums of the '90s.
