    2012 release from the Australian band (not to be confused with the critically acclaimed Oregon band who split in '98). In 2010, at a friend's farmhouse in Eagle Bay, Western Australia, Pond piled in with all their instruments, amplifiers, friends, recording equipment and Sam Ford to record Beard Wives Denim. After two weeks of Lord of the Flies-esque bonding with Frisbee and guitars and absolutely no religion or wood chopping or wives or beards, the album was finished. It a whole lot less like Neil Young, the Grateful Dead or the Band than Pond had imagined when the idea started, but it's the thought that counts.

    Double live albums were commonplace during the '70s, even for bands that weren't particularly good in concert. As a travelin' band, Lynyrd Skynyrd made their fame and fortune by being good in concert, so it made sense that they released a double-live, entitled One More from the Road, in 1976, months after the release of their fourth album, Gimme Back My Bullets. That might have been rather quick for a live album – only three years separated this record from the group's debut – but it was enthusiastically embraced, entering the Top Ten (it would become one of their best-selling albums, as well).

    Spectres is the fifth studio album by hard rock band Blue Öyster Cult, originally released in November 1977. The album was certified gold in January 1978 and contained the album rock hits "Godzilla", "Death Valley Nights", "R.U. Ready 2 Rock" and "I Love the Night". The single, "Going Through The Motions" charted in the American Top 40. A remaster of this album was released on CD on February 13, 2007, which included four previously unreleased outtakes from Spectres sessions as bonus tracks.

The orchestra sounds better than it did 30 years ago, undoubtedly the result of continued familiarity with period instruments, which has been evident for many years in recording after recording by period-instrument groups. Malgoire’s leadership retains the virtues of his previous recordings: reasonable tempos, almost never rushed; recitatives that are dramatically and realistically delivered; and a sense that we are listening to warm, living characters, undoubtedly helped by the fact that this is taken from a staged performance.
