Catalonian composer Xavier Montsalvatge began violin lessons at the age of nine, around the same time as his father's death and his move to Barcelona to live with his grandfather. This move later allowed him to attend the Barcelona Conservatory and numerous concerts that greatly influenced him. His teachers at the conservatory were Francisco Costa for violin and Enrique Morera and Jaume Pahissa for composition. He himself became a teacher at the school in 1933. His first important works were the 1934 Tres impromptus for piano, for which he won the Rabell prize from the Patxot Foundation, and the Suite burlesca, for which he won the Pedrell prize in 1936. Rejecting the legacies of Wagner and Richard Strauss that dominated in Spain ……..

The rich and sonorous choir piece Solrosen och Molnet by Lars-Erik Rosell is combined with my Requiem for soprano, choir, strings and synthesizer on this cd that displays the capacity and talent of one of Sweden's finest choirs guided by conductor Anders Eby who has been an important influence on me and a reason for my continuing and growing interest in the choir as an instrument.

Founded in Santiago de Cuba on November 7, 1939, Cuarteto Patria since its beginning decided as its main objective to cover the region’s rich troubadour song book. Later on in 1978 they experimented a second period when Eliades Ochoa took over the direction, who, without abandoning the trova reoriented the repertoire to a style much more sonero, as is shown in Son de Oriente, an album that recreates anthological themes from our traditional music in versions imbued with great Cuban spirituality, in which Eliades, besides his charisma as a singer, demonstrates his great skill as a guitarist.

Jack Earls' early career is proof that Sam Phillips and Sun Records had a much deeper and wider talent pool than "just" Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis to draw on. His sides, all but two unreleased, are as good as anything the label ever issued and Jack Earls' later career is proof that there is occasionally justice in the cosmos – 25 years after Elvis Presley was put in the ground, Earls was playing Las Vegas…

They derived their name from that of a rival school, St. Frances de Chantal.

Despite initial criticism, Colon‘s album El Malo has become known as one of the first albums to feature the "New York Sound" that sparked a renewed interest in Latin music during the 1970s. Colon has been instrumental in the careers of such Latin musicians as Ruben Blades, who first sang with Colon‘s band in 1975, and Celia Cruz, for whom Colon has produced such albums as Only They Could Have Done This Album in 1977 and the highly successful duet album Celia Willie in 1981.

There was a time, a long, long time ago, when rock musicians were allowed to be more than just rock musicians. Many forget in fact that the first generation of such artists sprang from backgrounds that took in blues, jazz, classical and even the avant garde. London's early '60s venues rattled to the sounds of trad jazz and chicago blues as well as folk, rock 'n' roll and skiffle. Jack Bruce was most definitely a product of this era. it was only by the end of the decade that he was cornered into behemoth blues rockdom with the supergroup Cream.
