"Cantades" (from the latin verb "cantare"), are a special kind of serenades with Italian origin, imported in Greece through the Ionian islands that were under Italian occupation till 1860. These songs are aranged for poly-phonic choruses and guitar and mandolin ensembles. They were very popular in Greece till 1950, and it was very common for the young men of Corfu, Zakinthos and Kefalonia to walk in the streets at night and sing love seranades under the window of the beautiful girls.
