Album first of two that has published the Canarian singer Monserrat, now residing in Brazil. Monserrat plays romantic music and dance of Latin American roots. He has received training in classical singing from Brazilian masters and so formed her soprano voice, strong, fluid and enveloping, as the music she plays. In this album has given a posthumous tribute to his mother with a repertoire of 12 songs that have worn classic romanticism and dramatic intensity of bolero interspersed with new details of jazz, flamenco, tango and samba.
Album performed by pianist, composer, arranger and conductor Solomon Schwartz (London, 1913-2002), aka 'Stanley Black', leading the London Festival Orchestra and Chorus. Black was one of the most famous, prolific and eclectic conductors during postwar at Britain. He went through several orchestras and bands, worked with British and American jazz musicians, conducted the orchestra of the RAF during the Second World War, he became director of the BBC Orchestra, was highly acclaimed in radio and television and later went on to record for Decca label full time. Stanley Black made an outstanding contribution to film music, he composed scores for over 200 films and music in general rushing almost all musical genres.
C.P.E. Bach’s two surviving oboe concertos both began as keyboard concertos that were later transcribed for oboe; their intended performer was probably Johann Christian Fischer, a virtuoso based in Potsdam in the mid 1760s. This would perhaps account for their technical and immensely challenging solo lines, which suggest that, like his father, Carl Philipp Emmanuel revelled in pushing instruments and performers to their limits.
The voice of countertenor Franz Vitzthum resounds with lightness and clarity: its almost ‘celestial’ quality appears completely free of all ballast. How appropriate therefore is this programme for Christophorus, in which the yearning for eternal life, when the shackles of mortal existence have been thrown off, was a central theme of the German Baroque period.
Echobrain was an American alternative metal musical group, who came to prominence as the first offering from former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted since leaving that band. Echobrain was formed in 2000 by Newsted, Brian Sagrafena and Dylan Donkin who had close contact with one another throughout the late-90s after they met at a Super Bowl party at Newsted's home in 1995. On a road trip to Baja, Mexico, Sagrafena and Donkin recorded some rough demos that, when they came home, eventually caught Newsted's attention, who then offered to help out on bass guitar and assist the songwriting. In May 2000, they entered a studio to record the demos more professionally, with help from several musicians including Newsted's then-colleague and Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, and former Faith No More guitarist Jim Martin
…This is another winner for MDG in the sound department. There is a palpable sense of “place”, of being somewhere specific, conveyed by the 2+2+2 sound; it is suitably reverberant but not overwhelming. The piano is realistically distant (no under-the-lid clarity here), and its bass register is rich and strong. But the cornet/trumpet is the star of the show, and Mr. Bauer’s golden tone blooms beautifully in the ample recorded space, wherever that is. A superbly planned and executed recital in perfect sound. What more could you want?
Great discovery, an unknown AOR pearl from the 80's released on a gold CD in typical Long Island Rock Classic tradition. This is in the early Diving for Pearls, Rick Springfield, Bryan Adams AOR style. Long Island Records Rock Classic Series. Limited and numbered to 2000 copies only. Fantastic canadian AOR/Melodic Rock stuff. If you're into Survivor/Stan Meissner, you'd love this one. Just listen to timeless hits like "I'll Be Waiting" or "Safe At Last".
The early 21st century saw Pantera singer Phil Anselmo launch several side projects, including Superjoint Ritual. The latter group is comprised of guitarists Jim Bower (ex-Down, Eyehategod) and Kevin Bond (ex-Eyehategod, Floodgate), drummer Joseph Fazzio (ex-Eyehategod), with none other than Hank Williams III on bass . May of 2002 saw the release of the quintet's debut, Use Once and Destroy, an album that reflected such influences as Black Flag, Righteous Pigs, Celtic Frost, and Voivod, among others.
After being dropped by Roadrunner Records, Mutiny Within has returned to the scene in an official capacity. Mutiny Within have announced the official release date of their long awaited sophomore album, Synchronicity, for January 12, 2013.
Split point was formed in the summer of 2008. A collective trio of musicians bred in the depths of the underground NJ metal scene. Previously part of such NJ acts as Loss of Breath, Nerv, Slidebolt and Frontline, their collective influences galvanize a heavy sound inspired by metal from the 80’s to today. Refusing to imprison its creativity into a specified sub-metal genre, Split Point composes its music with attention to melodic aggression, feel and dynamics. The concepts of “too heavy” or “not heavy enough” are not part of the vocabulary. The end game: the song…what it is, what it means and how it speaks. This philosophy of creative freedom ingrained within the Split Point power trio allows for the creation of a metal arsenal that both thrashes and grooves with melody, aggression and distinction.
…Do get this disc - it's not an easy listen for most of the time but it is rewarding and will appeal to anyone already wedded to the constituency of Bernstein, Bolcom and Schuman.
