The recording of Flavio was nominated for a Gramophone Award in 2011, in the Baroque Vocal category.

King Kobra III, released in 1988 on New Renaissance Records, was the first and last album by the Edwards, Michael-Phillips, Northrup, Hart and Appice line-up of King Kobra. The album featured a strong selection of 1980s style mainstream metal.

Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord began work on his solo album during his time in Whitesnake in the early '80s. Before I Forget was the result, an album that is half instrumental and half rock songs. Like many a metal musician, Lord tried to bridge the gap between classical and rock with questionable success. Still, this is definitely an interesting mix that may lack cohesion, but may appeal to Deep Purple fans who wanted to see the group evolve in this direction anyway.

Visitation Rites is the debut of Paraphrase, a collaborative improvisational trio featuring Tim Berne on saxophones, Drew Gress on bass and drummer Tom Rainey. Recorded live in Berlin in 1996, Berne and company stomp, boomerang, flail and jump all over the place, musically, yet somehow it all seems to make sense. Berne's serpentine lines let him milk a motif for all it's worth before letting Rainey and Gress take it somewhere else. Although their flights of collective improvisation are rather lengthy, they maintain a sense of cohesiveness throughout this challenging music. Their musical tapestry is vivid, rendering emotional peaks along with moments of whimsy.
